Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Brett Battles, comes Insidious, the second novel in his Night Man Chronicles series, featuring Nate from his award-winning Jonathan Quinn thrillers...

That way.

It’s such a simple request that Nate doesn’t think twice about turning down the path Liz suggests. But when he finds the body, he realizes he should have known better. Liz has the habit of pointing him toward those who need his help, even if they are no longer living.

His deceased girlfriend isn’t the only one pushing him to solve the dead woman’s murder. After his best friend Jar discovers the woman’s true identity, she insists they need to investigate. Nate is not as sure. The police are on the case, after all, and if he and Jar intervene, they would only get in the way.

Nate, Jar and Liz!

The Night Man Chronicles are about Jonathan Quinn's protege Nate's free efforts to rid the world of human scum driven by input from his dead girlfriend Liz (who was also Quinn's sister). In this novel Nate is helped mightily by the Jar who is the young Thai computer whiz who is now a member of Quinn's team. INSIDIOUS is another outstanding novel by Brett Battles. Zach Villa does a great job of narration. I very, very highly recommend Insidious!

Fabulous!!!

Let's start with the narrator! Zach Villa made the book better with his awesome narration. His emotions when he read were some of the best I've ever heard. His whispers, yells, anger, frustration, all his feelings were spot on. I'd listen to him again and again.

This story let you see a lot more of Jar, so you couldn't help but like her even more than you did in Night Man. It turns out that she had a really rough childhood, which she escaped from at age eight and a half. It had to have been a nightmare but she came out of it great.

This story was about a murdered girl that Jar could identify with and wanted Nate's help finding the killer. And, oddly enough, I don't remember anyone being killed. All the guns used were to put the bad guys to sleep, while Nate and Jar set up things to get a confession.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 1 time.

As to the narration? I already told you.

When will Book 3 be available?

If I could pre-order it the moment I finished Book 2, I would do so. EXCELLENT! I enjoyed Book 1, but this one was much better as far as the story. Narrator is always excellent. THANK YOU! Keep writing, Brett Battles!

Enjoyable, excellent plot and at times a good sense of humor

Well written and well presented. Different than the Quinn legacies but Nate obviously has his own personality. Good job. Will get the next is the Nate sequence.

Really Good Book!

This was such a good book. I really am enjoying this Jonathan Quinn spin off of Nate.

The addition of Jar is fantastic. I love her! She is always so logical. LOL

Nate and Jar make a great team and the dynamics between these two is great. Seems Liz may be fading away, I am okay with that.

The story line and plot was great, Didn't see some of what happened and why coming, which always makes a story even better.

The narration was very good. I really enjoyed it. Zach Villa did a great job on all the voices. He has a nice reading voice and reads with emotion. (He does sound kind of familiar).

Wonderful but still a tad weird

I had to dock a star because the whole story happened because of Liz's ghost whispering to Nate. That's a bit wild, and hard to swallow, but both the writing and narrating make it work. I will be glad when Liz can RIP though.

There's also no mention of Nate's prosthetic leg, which maybe should get tired or sore, or cause him to trip or stumble. Maybe the point is that this doesn't slow him down and he functions as a whole person.

Otherwise, this is smoother, less gritty work than Nate did with Quinn. It suits him. Nate has awesome skills, but he also has a whole network of talented friends without whom his life would be much more difficult.

Jar's story is told here, a heart wrenching tale, but one that needed to be told so that she could begin to heal. There is a lot of very welcome character explaining in this book that didn't happen in the others, that gives heart and soul to both the characters and the story.

I can't wait for more.

Brett Battles & Zach Villa dynamic duo!

I’ve been anxiously waiting for Book 2. As in “Night Man,” in Book 2, “Insidious,” the amazing, unique, savvy and rather sexy Nate and his team lead us on another gripping investigation. Exquisitely performed by exceptional narrator Villa, his skillful talents bring this sensational murder investigation to vivid life. Along for the ride are Jar, Nate’s tech wiz and of course “Liz” (she is a “fierce” to be reckoned with). Author Battles, takes us on an adventurous ride throughout with plots and subplots, humor and surprises, all mixing together to create delightful and whimsical chaos. So highly recommended, I can’t see to the top! Kudos to all involved as well as Audible for continuing this series. Looking forward to Book 3. Epic, I say. EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!
