Thorpe Delivers

So, personally I prefer “hard” sci-fi that has explainable technology either rooted in reality or at least internally consistent in the universe. This is an area where most BL authors utterly fail. I think Thorpe really delivers here. I’m not usually a fan of the Ultrasmurfs, but he does a pretty good job of giving them realistic flaws and having them overcome challenges (or not) in a way that doesn’t just scream “plot armor!” I also enjoyed the Necrons, most books only show their actions without going in to their internal thought process. The narrator is ok but he does have a lisp that is very pronounced any time he hit an “s” sound and it can be distracting.

liked it overall, but not the best start to the new project. the character dynamics on both sides seemed weak and recycled. I really hoped for more.

Rough Start to series.

Book picks up towards the end. Wish the 2 Lt competitive nature was better written and the Judiciar wasn't dumbed downed ro a bunch of "for the emporer" chants. Still lots of good pew pew moments. hopefully later books in the series will pick up.

good but could have been longer.

Fun story. Ultra marines they only play in one key. The Necrons back story between the characters could and should have been more fleshed out. That alone would have made the story more understandable. At least in regards to the antipathy between the two zenos commanders

loved it

This is a great book that's narrated well and left me wanting more. the characters are well defined and easy to keep track of. The plot is great and totally emersive. the characters motivations and reasoning are clear and understandable.

Great Audiobook!

I know this book seems to have caught some flak, but I really, really enjoyed it. I found the story compelling, and I enjoyed the characters and their development. I also thought the narrator was very good.

Good for new players; veterans pass it up.

A good story but I wouldn't write home about it. It definitely gives the 40k vibe but seasoned players or readers probably won't gain much.

A little slow to get going, but a fun ride none the less

Overall the story was good, and worth reading at least once. The main cast of characters are done well and likable, I especially enjoyed the necrons point of view since it shows they aren’t just mindless machines. Like any good villain the necrons believe that what they are doing is good and right for the galaxy, and so creates a nice contrast to the humans beliefs.

The voice actor did very well and was easy to understand. His voice acting for many of the characters were good enough not to pull you from the atmosphere of the story so can’t really ask for much more than that.

If you are a fan of the Space Marines or Necrons then I would recommend giving this book a read. The story is a little slow to get going at first, but turns into a fun ride even though it doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of the universe.

Albeit Epic, I expected more.

I really wanted to relive the trailer for Indomitus and discover more about the silent king and the reason behind his Awakening.

Also, not enough battles.

Great performance by Bowerman. I don't think I would've enjoyed the book as much had I read it instead.
