A page-turner, and transportive...puts the reader in not only the august assemblies of the American Revolution but also the streets, bedrooms, brothels, and bars of colonial Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. A spy thriller at heart, the historical aspect succeeds in breathing life into a period that largely remains the realm of scholarship rather than visceral fiction. To top it off, the narrator's performance is superb; great job voicing characters and blending "narrating" and "acting." A must-read and in this audio version, a must-listen! Sample it and see.

Extraordinary and gritty historical spy thriller!

In 1776 Philadelphia, at the height of the American Revolution, a British spy is tasked with assassinating key leaders of the Continental Congress. Standing in his way is a brilliant, code-breaking man who also battles epilepsy. As espionage and history collide, his puzzle-solving skills may be the only thing protecting the fledgling nation.

The author, Terry Lewis, masterfully delivers an immersive historical thriller set during the American Revolution. He expertly transports listeners to the era, capturing the tension of espionage and the uncertainty of determining friend from foe. His meticulous attention to detail shines through vivid descriptions and period-authentic dialogue, while his thoughtful exploration of the culture of the time keeps the listener engaged. Lewis skillfully blends historical and fictional characters, creating compelling character development that enriches the story without overwhelming it.

The narrator, Brian Avers, delivers a strong and engaging performance, giving each character a distinct and memorable voice that adds depth and clarity to the story. His precise tonal inflections and deliberate pacing enhance the flow of the narrative, vividly conveying the action and tension. The result is an immersive listening experience, rich in period detail and cultural authenticity.

I am eager to hear the next in the series.

Vivid Historical Fiction

This is my first Terry Lewis novel, but certainly won’t be the last. I know Terry Lewis as a judge. I have appeared before him. I know Terry Lewis as a tennis player I played several tennis battles against him. I knew that he was an author and read this book because of my personal knowledge of Terry Lewis. However, I am an avid reader and I was happily surprised with the quality of this book. My favorite authors are Michael Connelly and Lee child. However, their most recent books haven’t hit the mark for me. But this stand alone book hit it out of the park. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Lee child and Michael Connelly, with the only twist being that it is a historical novel that will take you back to the birth of our nation. Great book and narration - look forward to the next part in this series.

A solid historical thriller
