Publisher's summary

Wayne is living in a world where nothing is just and only the attractive succeed. He's peered beyond the curtain, knows he will never have what it takes to be confident. His friends are not much better, and have a taste for taking revenge on those that wrong them.

When a kooky waitress shows interest, Wayne is sure it's too good to be true. He's all too aware of his unconventional looks and beliefs, but decides to proceed with caution. Meanwhile, his friends introduce him to a world he never thought possible. A place of power. A place of violence. Wayne finds himself struggling to live two lives, all too aware that something has to give. Things will end in bloodshed.

Incel provides a terrifying look into the extreme side of a growing community from the perspective of a fragile mind.

Way to make me uncomfortable

This is not for the faint of heart, it's a true descent into madness and all the ugly things that go with it. The characters are not nice people and the author makes no bones about that. Definitely gives you what did I just read. Very good book if you don't mind being made uncomfortable.

Where's the Beef

Thank You Matt Duchossoy and Patrick Webb for this extreme horror look at how negative peer pressure looks can effect someone's actions.

I was gifted a code to read this book on Audible recently. Patrick Webb did a somewhat decent job of enhancing the story. The one character that he voices sounded like South Park which brought me out of the story a little. Fans of South Park will probably love that character. This is a fiction horror story that unfortunately could actual almost happen depending on the area of town and who one calls their associates. Parts of the story is a trauma reaction to life situations .

This is the second book I read of this author, the first was Burden which was extremely good. My advice on this book keep reading, that 180 turn will kick in. This author knows how to conclude his stories very well. I am so glad i kept reading to find the beef of the story. Readers of Extreme Horror will enjoy this book. I highly recommend this short story.

what a horrifying book!

I haven't had such a visceral reaction to a book in a long time. I definitely enjoyed it but the scariest part is there are men in the world who think like this! Great read!

Terrifying!

So scary! Also, I think more people need to realize these kind of people really are lurking!

rough read/listen for women

I have no idea where to start with this one. Incel is a hard read being a woman. If we didn't at one point know someone like this, we've definitely encountered one in the wild world that is the internet. It made the book uncomfortable being in the mind of an incel, making me rethink some interactions I've had in my life. Wondering how things could have taken a serious turn. Any sort of art that makes you feel good, bad, or otherwise is doing its job. Matt Duchossoy deserves all the points for a book that made me uneasy and uncomfortable enough to rethink a lot of my past interactions. Especially as a teen. Incel is both exactly what you expect it to be and not at all where you expect it to go. A brutal story with a brutal end. No characters are likable, and while you want to feel sorry for Wayne, the main character, at least twice, you don't, and won't. Knowing what Mr. Duchossoy researched to make this book happen and keep it realistic is baffling. I'm apologetic he spent so much time on a dark part of the internet, but I'm also thankful he went to the lengths he did to put out one hell of a story.

Patrick Webb did a phenomenal job narraration on audible. His inflections made me cringe in the best way. Dwayne's voice was made grating, also in the best way. If you enjoy audio books I really recommend giving this one a listen.

Thanks again Matt Clarke for my audible copy. You absolutely killed it with this story. 🖤

Real Life Horror

Before reading this book, I had never heard of the term "Incel" or a lot of the other terms used. However, after this, I find it truly horrifying that these types of situations are in existence.

Wayne and his friends are not a part of the popular/attractive crowd. In fact, they are all virgins. Their main form of socialization is through video games and internet groups. After an attack leaves Wayne and his two friends injured and disfigured for life, they decide to take matters into their own hands. I think most people can relate to some of their feelings. Who hasn't suffered the comments and jabs of bullies at some point in their life?

This was a hard book to read and it really gave me pause to realize that there are people so ostracized that they would turn to the types of depravity depicted in this book. The author has obviously done a lot of research into the whole "Incel" aspect and it shows in his writing. This is the second book I have read by Mr. Duchossoy, but it won't be my last. He has a way of writing that truly draws you into the story.

The narrator did a good job, but the one character's voice was like nails on a blackboard for me (maybe that was his intent, though!).
