Publisher's Summary

Evil lurks in Amish country - and detective Elizabeth Harris is there to smoke it out in the new novel from the author of Kingdom Come.

By solving the murders of two local girls, Elizabeth has gained some trust in the Amish community. So she's the first person its members turn to when a fast and fatal illness takes hold among the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Many believe that the sickness stems from a curse placed by a practitioner of old-world folk magic. But Elizabeth doesn't believe in curses, and when an entire Amish family is found dead, she begins to suspect something far more sinister.

As the CDC is called in to investigate, customers of a Philadelphia farmers market selling Amish goods start dying. Amid rapidly escalating panic, Elizabeth must peel away layers of superstition and fear to save the livelihood - and lives - of an entire community. Because what has happened isn't an accident of nature or an act of God; it's the handiwork of someone who has only just begun to kill.

An Excellent Second Book

After thoroughly enjoying Kingdom Come, I immediately got the second book in the series. Solid plot, good characters and a really good murder mystery makes me definitely look forward to more.
Love Detective Harris and her relationship with Ezra. I felt it gives much more to the story to understand these characters who actually have a background and a life. And I loved the tension between Elizabeth and Glenn. And all the relationships she has with the Amish and the families. Really well done.
As before, in Kingdom Come, I enjoyed all the places mentioned in Lancaster that I know.
And again, Rachel Fulginiti does a really good narration with Elizabeth and the unique Amish voices.
I hope the author is busy writing more in this series!

Awesome story! Love this author!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is the perfect mix of murder mystery with a little romance.

What other book might you compare In the Land of Milk and Honey to and why?

If you like the Rachel Knight DA series by Marcia Clark, then I think you would like this series.

What about Rachel Fulginiti’s performance did you like?

She did a the very different voices so incredibly well, even the Amish, with their German/Dutch accents. Suburb performance!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I loved it so very, very much. I had listened to the first book in the series & had to immediately get this second book. Now I'm sad that there are no more in the series available yet. I hope there will be very soon.

Any additional comments?

If you have not listened to her first book in this series, Kingdom Come, then listen to it first. Especially if you want in on the first of the "romance" part.

I loved the characters in this book. This book works on many levels but for me this story was close to perfect. I really hope we see more entries in the series soon.

Solid 2nd book of what promises to be a fun detective series

I've always enjoyed Jensen's story telling ever since Gabriel Knight (although I've not read any materials written under her pen name). This book is another classic modern detective story with excellent writing, vivid description, and steady character development. Will hope for a third story about these characters from that brilliant brain of hers.......keep up the great work Jane!

Strong Mystery

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 3.50

Audio Rating: 4.25 (not part of the overall rating)

Quick Thoughts: This is the 2nd book in this series and the mystery was really good. That is where this series shines--the Mysteries. It is a great combo of good old detective work and balance with working in the Amish community where they shy away from the English. I generally stay away from Amish settings but Jane Jensen makes it interesting. I am starting to warm up to Elizabeth and the ending gave me hope that some of the "personal angst" is over. That really is my only complaint but like I said I think most of that is over. I look forward to book 3.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Rachel Fulginiti / Length: 6 hrs and 57 mins

Rachel does a great job with this series. She makes everyone sound natural in their settings from young Amish children to hard-nose detectives. I recommend this series on audio.

slow to start, ended strong

I was so excited to listen to this book after finishing the first in the series which was great. I was rather disappointed for the first few chapters with the story which seemed to be focused on making more of a statement about agriculture than on telling a story. As a born and raised farmer, I didn't appreciate that, and almost stopped listening. Elizabeth also seemed more stiff and not the great character that was in the first book. About mid book, the story picked up and E came back. I would liked to have seen more of Ezra in the book as well. As in the first book, fantastic narration!

Very good read

Well good book to listen to. Love the first series and the second book of this author got me hooked. I finished listening to this book in one day. Could not put this down since I wanted to know who was causing the issue for the Amish community in their milk product. Overall, great story. I wish Jane Jensen would make another series of detective Elizabeth Harris.
