A soulful collection of nearly four decades of surf writing. In Deep transports listeners into the heart of the surfing world’s culture through the eyes and imagination of a master storyteller. George’s personality profiles, perspective essays, and travel accounts achieve a level of frank articulation that, much like the works of Theroux, Krakauer, and Finnegan, reveal as much about the man as it does his subjects. Peak transcendence and quiet reflection, famous beaches and lost islands, competitive triumphs and personal tragedies; In Deep is a compelling montage assembled by both a seasoned observer and fervent participant in the sublime pursuit of the passion that comes in waves.

Great job by Matt George. Great reading cadence. Great insight to a culture that I am learning.

Author is the reader

The author/narrator has not taken the time to edit hir narration. What's worse is that parts of this book is horribly compressed or noise gate added in such a way that some stories are u listenable. It's too bad because there's a lot of good stories in the book.

Fantastic stories well told, but..

Audio recording is pretty bad. Main thing is that with this playing in car the bass is ridiculously bad. Some kind of editing or equipment issue when recording. Barbarian days audio recording is top tier quality compared. Also Matt says “stop” when he messes up and starts saying whatever it was he messed up again. High quality stories backed by low quality production

Very cool stories. Interesting.
