A picaresque novel set against the backdrop of working-class Texas, Ingram invites listeners to see the world through the eyes of a child who drifts through a tough American landscape of corn farms and oil fields, guided by diner waitresses, migrant workers, and criminals, trying to make sense of a world that doesn’t care about him anymore than a jungle or desert does for the creatures that toil to survive within them.

The reality Ingram discovers is wild and cruel, but filled with unexpected wonders. Though this young boy faces tornadoes, explosions, thieves, and rampant violence, his curiosity, humor, and resilience never dull.

As he begins to push against the tide of social and natural bad luck that seems to almost chase him, Ingram begins to forge himself into an individual with agency and the ability and right to choose his own moves, even if he’s not always prepared for the consequences.

Through Ingram’s journey, he begins to come to terms with a forgotten tragedy from his past that shapes the way he understands himself, his family, and his own place in the world.

Ingram is a great companion

Louis really does a great job channeling Ingram into this book. Every chapter is engaging. I felt a wide spectrum of emotions going through Ingram's life and I think I'm better for it. Definitely worth the money and time.

A great story, very descriptive

Listened to the audio version couldn’t wait for the next chapter. Great story about a boy making on his own Louie CK was very descriptive really easy to imagine the story playing out. Highly recommend!

Innocence to impact!I

Louis CK has written a unique and charming journey of Ingram's rice from abandonment to inclusion. Ingram's character is deep seated and steadfast as he gains knowledge and experience little by little. You will be surprised by what he is able to accomplish in a years. It is a joyful and poignant story in the mode of a child Forrest Gump. In my opinion, Louis CK has surprised us with a potential classic. Read this journey. I'll bet at the end you'll be hoping for more tales about the life of the insightful Ingram.
