Publisher's Summary

Can we overcome our past?

Katie Parker is about to get a new life - whether she wants one or not. With her mom in prison, and her father AWOL, Katie is sent to live with a squeaky-clean family who could have their own sitcom. She launches a full-scale plan to get sent back to the girls home, when she finds herself in over her head...and heart.

When Katie and her new crowd get into significant trouble at school, she finds her punishment is restoring a historic theater with a crazy grandma who goes by the name of Mad Maxine. In the midst of her punishment, Katie uncovers family secrets that run deep, and realizes she's not the only one with a pain-filled past. Katie must decide if she'll continue her own family's messed up legacy, or embrace a new beginning in this place called In Between.

great book for Christians and non Christians

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little slow at first but you really start getting interested, and by the end of the book you're looking forward to the next one in the series. I really loved that it was a Christian book as I am a Christian, and I think the author incorporated Christianity well in this book. It is put in a way so that Christians and non Christians can read this book without feeling uncomfortable. overall it was a great book and I recommend it for teen girls to read

Refreshing and enlightening

I read this for bookclub. At first I'm thinking , this is too elementary but felt I had to continue reading it in order to give my input at the meet. It became a wake up call for me. Have faith, believe that prayers are answered and someone far greater than I is in charge and wants the best for us. Things happen for a reason and we may not know those reasons for a long time or ever for that matter. I wish all troubled teens would read this........I wish everyone would read this.

full of humor, heartbreak, and real life

In Between is both a fun and heartbreaking story. Katie is a foster child… one who will soon be aging out of the system. Written from Katie Parker’s perspective, this captivating story lets us as readers in on her innermost feelings and fears. While her choices aren’t always the best, she really just wants to love and be loved, and to replace her deepest fears with lasting hope.

The humor in this book will bring a smile to your face. Jenny B Jones has a very upbeat and candid writing style that I truly enjoyed. As I listened to the audio version, I want to add that Reba Buhr did a fantastic job reading Katie’s story. I want to finish the series!

This book correlates with guacamole and lime tortilla chips for me. Guacamole with some spice. The combination of flavors is just right.

Fun and light with a good story.

The narrator is a great storyteller making it a fun read. I'm going to pass it on to a young lady who will enjoy the humor and I hope will learn a lesson or two.

stubborn and crazy this is

so Katie is the stubborn rebellious teenager who does not want to be where she at in-between is not a place for her Meli is an over loving mother that is so preppy that you wonder how she can withstand it. the grandma is to die for she makes this book she's the great grandmother that you wish you had but at the same time you wish you could lock her away James is the Foster dad and he is a little bit on the blunt sarcastic side he's stubborn but he does have his wit. she gets involved with people of the wrong crowd but I wonder if she gets out of it. the good kids are not hurt her style and this whole church thing is just one big ball of fun for her. take a look at the book I think many people would love it you'll be laughing and you will think that this book is great I got it because it was free and I paid a dollar for the audible who can resist a dollar and now I bought the other three there great.

Wholesome, Fun and Endearing

Where does In Between rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Solid storyline and interesting background. Foster care and Foster parenting have a bit of stigma attached to them and some readers might hesitate, and would miss out. The characters are fun and not predictable, but believable. This is a great summer read and appropriate for even Jr. High age, but is not juvenile. Just an easy, relaxing read with a bit of moral goodness for a change!

What other book might you compare In Between to and why?

Melody Carlson has some books out that are clean and fun in this way.

Did Reba Buhr do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Her voices were distinguished and consistent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Katie was in trouble and expecting the very worst, but things turned out differently than one would expect.
