Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

As a purveyor of all things vampire…LOVED it!
I read Bram Stoker in 1962 and was immediately enthralled by the vampires. Many years and much dreck later, I was thoroughly entertained and delighted by both installments of this story. And if readers have yet to grow up, same sex stories are among the oldest themes in human history. Get over it and just enjoy the art.

The adventure continues in another entertaining audio production
Impact Winter is an incredible Audible Original series that has delighted and entertained me with both its seasons. With executive producers from The Walking Dead and the talented writer of Pacific Rim returning for its highly anticipated second season, this series delivers on every level.
Set in the near future, seven years after a devastating comet impact, Impact Winter presents a dark and frozen world where the sun has been blotted out. As if the harsh conditions weren’t enough, mysterious creatures emerge, raising the question: could they be vampires?
This unique blend of post apocalyptic storytelling, perfectly combined with horror, and adventure keeps listeners on the edge of their seats.
Setting Impact Winter apart is its exceptional British cast, who brings the characters to life with skill, emotion, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Their performances are truly immersive, drawing listeners into this sunless world filled with swords, crossbows, primal hunters, shape-shifters, leaders, and lovers. The talent behind the production ensures that every moment is vividly portrayed, capturing the listeners’ attention from start to finish.
The story itself is captivating, with nonstop action that keeps the adrenaline pumping. If you’re a fan of post-apocalyptic adventures featuring vampires, Impact Winter is the audio production for you. The carefully crafted sound design and immersive 3D audio makes everything sound absolutely awesome. Whether you’re using headphones or AirPods, you’ll find yourself completely surrounded by this world and its inhabitants, fully immersed in their stories.
Impact Winter is a testament to the power of audio storytelling, delivering an intense and thrilling experience that will keep you hooked. With its talented cast, gripping narrative, and immersive production quality, this Audible Original series is a must-listen for fans of the genre. So grab your earbuds, dim the lights, and get ready to venture into the frozen darkness as a brave few fight to survive the impact winter.

Now a teen romance story
I felt awkward in the First Season where almost each episode had some small sexually charged dialogue, and was not a fan of it.
Now I'm 3 episodes into Season 2, and we have a "2023" love story, and the focus is on the ongoing romances between each character, rather then the interesting world they live in.
It feels like it's aimed at young horny teens, rather than "mature audiences" as stated in the description.
Another qualm for me is there are too many female voice actors, and they all sound the same with their Queens English accent. They were meant to be based in Devon.
Also, I'm waiting for this Dolby Atmos to blow me away. Samsung S23U, Buds Pro... Nothing special.

Scratches the vampire itch nicely but...
I very rarely write reviews, but I was compelled to in this instance.
The good;
pulpy vampire fun
decent vampire lore
good voice acting
The bad;
Questionable writing decisions - character's motivations don't make any sense.
"humans are the real monsters" is very, very tropey at this point.
The hero? a woman. The baddie? a woman. The vampire council? 5/6th women. The leaders of the human resistance? again believe it or not, women. A touch of self awareness required (like men were killed early or some such).
The ugly;
Some really awful characters who serve no purpose (unless their purpose is to make you hate them I guess). Case in point - Lydia. Characters like this are what kills series like this. It is not believable for this character to be this annoying and stupid, a decade into the vampire apocalypse. Why would anyone put up with her? No one would.

Disappointing 2nd season
1st season was great. 2nd season was akin to a twilight movie. Not sure I'll be revisiting for season 3.

Fantastic Voice Acting, Ho Hum Story
I'm torn on this review, because the setting, the atmosphere, sound effects and voice acting really pull you in and set the tone perfectly. This story is best listened to on a cold winter night with a hot drink and a fireplace. But, 90% of the dialogue is whispered, which gets old quickly. Also, this type of full production audiobook with sound effects and multiple voice actors doesn't have "John said" or "Jane replied" from a 3rd person narrator like it's done with Graphic Audio. It can take some time and a good ear to associate voices to a particular character, and it doesn't make it any easier because a few of the female actors sound very similar. The best way I can describe it is, turn on a movie on your TV, keep the audio on but turn the screen off. This is exactly the experience with Impact Winter. All this wasn't a game breaker for me, until I got a few hours in and found the story was verrrrry slooooow and ultimately forgettable.

Disappointed
I loved the first one, but this one was really disappointing.
The love interest dialogue was really cringe, especially the lesbian stuff and everyone’s reactions to it. It was like it was all written by an embarrassed adolescent.
It ended up too female dominated after Jep, Rook and the doctor were out of the picture. Those actors added gravitas. Felix became weak.
The female cast became difficult to differentiate.
The plot twist didn’t feel authentic.
What a shame, I was buzzing at the end of the first one, and recommending it to people. I don’t think I’ll bother with the third.

very well produced but story fades.
really like these dramatisations, and book one really started to draw me in but by the end of book two the theme becomes a predictable 2022-23 story about same sex relations, which is fine... but not particularly climatic original or clever. all that work by the cast to eventually land on that as the story wrap up.... zzzz

good, but awfull
good production, might Been good book, but book is female power phantasy, where every good man is super weak, strong man are super villains. every key charecter is woman. highly recomend to women audience. Also such a stupid drama story.

Not as good as the first series sadly.
As other reviewers have said this series really slowed down midway. Could have easily cut it, by 2/3 episdoes. Some of the characters were very annoying and by the end of the series I was hoping, pun intended, they would be killed off. The 300% increase in lesbianism also felt unnecessary. I was getting Buffy vibes with Hope substituted for Dawn and I hated that character too so. The sound recording was also not as crisp and clear as the first series. Don't think I'd bother with the third series, free or not.

Love this series
“Or you could just pull his head off, yeah, good life hack.”
Enjoyed season 1 more, but this was still so good. After that ending really hope we get a season 3.

continued to be immersive
It feels like I'm in the story rather than being told a story. I can't wait to see what is next!

Fantastic
Great cast, fantastic sound effects, great score. The script is excellent. It puts you right there in the story, can’t fault it. For fans of vampire stories and fantasy alike.
