Our favorite moments from Gustafer Yellowgold
A lively narrative plus music captures Gustafer’s origin story.
About the Creator and Performer
After a dozen or so years in the Dayton, Ohio indie-rock scene, mostly self-taught musical and visual artist Morgan Taylor moved to NYC in 1999 in pursuit of a life in the arts. While primarily focusing on songwriting and performing, Taylor honed his skills as a professional sound engineer. By 2004 he brought his love of drawing into the blend to self-produce the first Gustafer Yellowgold picture books, with cartoon images depicting the lyrics of some of his quirkier indie-folk pop songs. The books soon became animated, read-along music videos. The strong reaction from fans and press inspired Taylor to hit the stage with an early version of his multimedia concert in spring of 2005; within three years, he was full-time into the world of Gustafer. Over 2,000 live performances, eight CD/DVD albums, and two Grammy nominations later, Taylor is just hitting his creative stride with the Gustafer Yellowgold series.

Creative!
This story captures the childlike side of us all which we learn to mask as we grow toward adulthood - the competitiveness, bullying, gentle spirit, secrets, super heroes, love of speed, and every child (and adult’s) desire to be special are present.
The ballad-like music is a great story extender, with the lyrics adding depth to the plot and the gentle tone easy to listen to.
The concept of Yellowgold’s community on the sun is creative and is carried out in imagination-stretching nuances. I found myself listening for the details that compare and contrast Sun-life and Earth-life. Nicely done.
This was a fun story. I enjoyed it.

Awesome book!
The story plot might be predictable, but it took several twists and turns on the way making for a fun listen. The music was nice and two songs were the kind that will stay in my head - I'm from the sun and The Carvery. The narrator was smooth and fun to listen to. I highly recommend this book for all ages.

We've Loved Gustafer for Years!
There is still SO little kids' music that will not drive parents out of the room-- and that tells a truly creative story full of wonder and weirdness. Gustafer and his ever-growing crowd of buddies send the imagination off in all kinds of unexpected directions. The songs are catchy but also rich and surprising enough to be listened to many many times. My kids and I would follow Mr. Yellowgold anywhere, including to the sun. Check him out!!

Story & music with the power to enhance childhood!
It is not an overstatement to say that the music of, and backstory to, the tale of Gustafer Yellowgold changed my family's life. Thanks to Morgan Taylor's creation, my daughters grew up over the past decade knowing that there are alternatives to pop culture and that those alternatives can be weird and wonderful. The Gustafer Yellowgold songs are funny, charming, introspective and touch on universal topics of family, friends, food, and finding your place in the world. I cannot recommend this Audible story enough for you and your family!
