Publisher's Summary

Deeply buried secrets make for a disturbing family reunion in bestselling author Catherine McKenzie’s tantalizing novel of psychological suspense, named one of the Hottest Books of Summer by Goodreads.

What happened to Amanda Holmes?

Twenty years ago, she was found bludgeoned in a rowboat at the MacAllister family’s Camp Macaw. No one was ever charged with the crime.

Now, after their parents’ sudden deaths, the MacAllister siblings return to camp to read the will and decide what to do with the prime real estate the camp occupies. Ryan needs to sell. Margaux hasn’t made up her mind. Mary believes in leaving well enough alone. Kate and Liddie - the twins - have opposing views. And Sean Booth, the groundskeeper, just hopes he still has a home when all is said and done.

But it’s more complicated than a simple vote. The will stipulates that until they unravel the mystery of what happened to Amanda, they can’t settle the estate. Any one of them could have done it, and each one is holding a piece of the puzzle. Will they work together to finally discover the truth, or will their secrets finally tear the family apart?

not bad for a kindle unlimited selection

I only chose this book because it was a kindle unlimited with audio book, and it wasn't bad, but not much of a thriller or mystery. the number of characters & different time lines got to be confusing & at times I confused Ryan and Shawn, and especially the female characters. none of the really felt well defined or fleshed out.
portions of the story felt added just to reflect the times - the sex, anger issues & gender/sexuality characteristics - rather than to really add to the story.
I 'solved' the whodunit fairly early on, so no big reveal there. but maybe I just read & listen to too many thrillers.
overall it was just ok.

Horrible ending

Was ready to give this book 4 stars until the incredibly stupid and laughable ending. It made absolutely zero sense and ruined the entire book. Don’t waste your time with this one. What a disappointment.

Entertaining!

I liked this story a lot. Love? No. But definitely highly liked. There are a lot of characters to keep track off which can be confusing and takes away from the “thrill” at the end. I had to stop listening and think back to all the main characters in order to figure out who was who. The ending is also drawn out. It could’ve been wrapped up sooner. All in all, the story was great and the characters were entertaining. The ending wasn’t as shocking maybe because we didn’t get to know that character as well as the others.

As far as narration, everyone was great except the male. I absolutely could not stand his voice and he was not consistent in character voices at all!

Messed up

This story is about a seriously messed up family. They practice almost no communication, their dad spies on and has made actual files on each one of them, and of course the secrets are everywhere. This dysfunctional group comes together for the reading of the Will and that is when the skeletons start tumbling out of the closet. It's a trainwreck you've gotta read it.

slow-paced story. gruesome ending

the story is about a large family who owned and worked at a summer camp for most of their upbringing. a tragedy happened 20 years prior to the story taking place and must be solved. some of the family Dynamics were interesting but a lot of the characters were awfully whiny to me. however the mystery did keep me guessing until the end.

A Father's Legacy

A dysfunctional family story that grabs you and won't let go. A family that lied internally, and, painted a pretty picture to the public. A father's will that pitted five siblings against each other. A young woman has been in a coma for twenty years because of one of the children, but which one put her there? The father's past and the will he left behind pointed an unknowing finger of suspicion at one of his children.

Great Ride!

You will guess the ending early on, but you will guess many endings and it keeps you guessing. Great thriller.

Just ok....

Storyline was missing a bit of the thrill aspect for me. I was pretty much bored through 70% of it. I mean, everyone is in love with everyone else. It just didn't work for me. Wish it had. The narration was great and I enjoyed each of them equally.

Intriguing and suspenseful to the very end!

What happened to Amanda? Twenty years ago, someone attacked her and left her for dead at the McAllister’s summer camp. Now, the five siblings must gather to listen to the reading of their parents’ will after their unexpected deaths. Together they must determine what happened to Amanda to ensure an equitable split of the property. What comes out during this weekend is an unusual amount of secrets and lies.

With so many twists and shocking events, this thriller kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. I could not figure out who done it until the very end and it was even surprising then at why they did it! One of the best mysteries I’ve read in quite some time. The was my first read of Catherine McKenzie's and I will definitely be reading more. Highly recommend this book if you need an intriguing listen!
