In 1994, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, California. O. J. Simpson was tried for the crime in a case that captured the attention of the American people, but he was ultimately found not guilty of criminal charges. The victims' families brought civil cases against Simpson, in which he was found liable for willfully and wrongfully causing the deaths of Ron and Nicole by committing battery with malice and oppression.

In 2006, HarperCollins announced the publication of a book in which O. J. Simpson told how he hypothetically would have committed the murders. In response to public outrage that Simpson stood to profit from these crimes, HarperCollins canceled the book. A Florida bankruptcy court awarded the rights to the Goldmans in August 2007 to partially satisfy the unpaid civil judgment, which has risen, with interest, to over $38 million.

The Goldman family views this book as Simpson's confession, and has worked hard to ensure that the public will read or listen to this book and learn the truth. This audiobook was produced from the original manuscript approved by O. J. Simpson, with additional insight from the Goldman Family, Pablo F. Fenjves, and Dominick Dunne.

The basically confesses. I think he did it. But, having said that, I also tend to have a very different view of the entire thing. If this had been ten years ago I would have said most of it is bs. But, I believe a good portion of what he is saying having lived through something very similar. Don't get me wrong, the man's a killer. But, you have to take both sides into account in circumstances such as these if you SINCERELY seek the truth. Even when it means hearing things you wish you hadn't... I would lime to say thank you to the Goldman Family for releasing this book. My heart goes out to you. Father to father, son, and sibling. I hope you have managed to find some peace in the years since. Be it no replacement for a son taken. Keep fighting the good fight. People do think about, and support you and your efforts even now. And to the Browns, my condolences. I hope your pain has diminished over the years. Peace to all of you....

Crazy...

Would you try another book from the authors and/or the narrators?

possibly, I liked the author because he seemed to convey his feelings that his subject was a self absorbed lunatic, but didn't really come out and say it.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Typical OJ, but his version of "what happened" is even more delusional than I would have imagined.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was great! He gave a excellent performance - really creepy and with plenty of narcissistic attitude, perfect for the role of OJ. He was very suspenseful and my heart was pounding when they got to the unfortunate night of the murders.

Do you think If I Did It needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

NO! I'm glad this worked out in the Goldman's favor, but please stop OJ from doing any more damage. The only reason I considered this purchase was because it did NOT benefit OJ.

Any additional comments?

It was a good listen, but be prepared for alot of whining and complaining about how HE was treated poorly by everyone, especially Nicole. His crazy viewpoint is what makes you shake your head and say OMG all throughout the book. for people who are interested in this case, this is worth a listen, especially because you will need to keep reminding yourself that it's not really OJ speaking - that's the best thing about it.

Couldn't help myself

When I first heard about this book, I was horribly disgusted! I would have thrown out the book if it had been given as a "gift". The ONLY REASON WHY I have it now, because he has no way to gain anything from this, 'nor do his poor children'. WHATEVER!!!! I get to go to Las Vegas,Nevada quite a few times a year and as we drive by I LOVE 'waving' the "Bird" and shouting out the window, how we all are hoping his LONG GOLF VACATION on the inside will help him find the (in his words) the real murders!!!! I can give him a little heads up..... It's called LOOK IN A FREAKIN MIRROR!!!!

Oh please, 'IF'?!!!

from the eyes of OJ it's like you want so badly to confess but can't face it himself

wow

Like many others, I always believed O.J. to be guilty. This book proved it for me! I finished it pondering why would he put it out there and write this book? I believe he needed to confess his guilt. I also believed he felt a need to justify his actions. After reading the book I learned of the many frustrations he endured over the seperation and divorce from Nicole. While I have more empathy after reading the book, my feelings towards O.J.'s actions remain the same. No frustrations, torment, unhappiness, or agony deserves the right to kill.

Most telling book!

I love this story. Everything is just so fascinating. I really appreciate the Goldman family for their courage and dedication. Listening to OJs story clarified and further confused. Still a compelling book.

The best part of the book was the confession chapter. The build up to that point is very hard to listen to, because he really makes himself out to be the victim. There is no way to believe him in the early parts of the story. OJ is a complete narcissist abuser and he turns the whole story around to try and make the reader feel sorry for him. The only believable part is the confession chapter, the one that the ghost writer claimed OJ didn't like.

I would have never spent money on this book if the proceeds went to OJ. In fact when someone suggested to read it, I laughed. Then they mentioned that the proceeds went to the Goldman family and I decided to give it a shot. The performance by the main reader was really good, I did enjoy listening to him.

very interesting to hear this "hypothetical" confession from oj Simpson. I really enjoyed it and the narrator was great.

This was the best audio book I've heard and read, I'm still sad that oj was arrested and to this day he's dying in jail :(

This book loses 1 star in all categories because they put those two haters in the forward and afterward. I'm reading for OJs story. I'm not reading for the jilted family or the hateful reporter

awesome book sans the two haters
