Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Leslie Langtry

Coney Bombay isn't your average PhD. While he may be well versed in philosophy, he's also one of the most lethal members of the Bombay Family of assassins. Choosing to travel the world operating carnival rides and spending quiet evenings knitting with his pet guinea pig, even in his crazy family, Cy stands out as wild card. But after a series of run-ins with perennial grad student, Veronica Gale, the cool cat is starting to feel a little hot under the collar.

In her research, Ronnie Gale has seen a lot. Problem is, she hasn't actually done a lot. The mysterious Cy Bombay seems about to change all of that when a whirlwind adventure takes them from the small-town country fair to the outer reaches of Mongolia, and into a murder mystery with Cy squarely in the center.

Ronnie's going to have to climb out of her ivory tower and get a little down and dirty if she wants to survive Cy Bombay's wild ride.

Fun listen

I enjoy how the books overlap the lives of each different, main characters. I can always imagine where the other family are based on past books and where this one starts. Fun quick read that is hard to put down.

But you only kill bad people, right?

“Warriors! Come out to plaay-ee-ay!”
The pop culture quotes at the start of every chapter continue to steal the show.

“You are such a poodle!”
This installment features Cy, carnival worker by day and assassin with a PhD at night. The narration took a bit to get used to because it made Cy sound like a 50 year old professor and Veronica sound like a bratty teenager. In reality, Cy is in great enough fighting form to spend most of this book on a wrestling tour in Mongolia and Veronica is a late-twenty-something working on her doctorate.

“Bzzzzt!”
Once I adjusted to the narrator, I really liked the comedic timing of two brains who are both rather dim when it comes to normal adulting. I had a gas with Cy’s internal monologue. My favorite character was Cy’s pet guinea pig. And I really enjoyed how things end by bringing the Bombay family together.

Regret purchasing and boo the narrator

the narrorator did OK with the male voices because of the accent differences but when it comes to the women he has no range. Every female has the same voice just a different attitude. Gin is normal, mom is sing song and Ronnie, the female lead of this book, sounds like a snarky brat even in softer moments. The way he portrays her makes her very unlikable right through the end.

I love assassin stories and I initially thought this series was great because it was like the story behind the story. the funny of what happens, what goes wrong but it gets done in the end. To come 4 books into the series and find that none of them want to actually be assassins and they have regret for it, but love the money is a turn off. This is a family of tradition and proud assassins and this one generation has been allowed to destroy it and take apart the entire family business. Considering the story centers around them all being assassins the series should have ended here. sad i bought the whole series. Between the political jabs and the narcissism and entitled whining of the characters, it's a lot stomach.
