Valerie Harper
The heartwarming memoir of beloved television actress Valerie Harper, best known for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and on Rhoda.
Valerie Harper was an unknown actress when she won the groundbreaking role of Rhoda Morgenstern, Mary Tyler Moore’s lovable and self-deprecating on-screen best friend. Bold and hilarious, the native New Yorker and struggling working girl was unlucky in love and insecure about her weight—in other words, every woman’s best friend.
Harper represented a self-reliant new identity for women of the 1970s. She fought for equal rights alongside feminists Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug; and her incredible showbiz journey, which began on Broadway with Lucille Ball and Jackie Gleason, led her to four Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Harper is upbeat and funny, and her inspiring life story is laced with triumphs and transformative obstacles. This beloved actress’s incredible pluck, indomitable spirit, and warm and generous heart have touched our lives and kept us entertained for decades.

The latest medical news surrounding Valarie Harper broke just as I was finishing this audiobook. As I listened, enjoying every moment, I was amazed by the depth of her career and her love and affection for many friends and family. Her show "Rhoda" was a TV sensation, but she has done so much more since then, including a life filled with passion and care for those less fortunate. The depth of her sharing goes way beyond most bios. Her anecdotes made me laugh and her honesty and emotional stories renewed my love for the woman we knew as Rhoda. Bless you Valarie! What an Amazing Life!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I learned about Valerie and her famous Rhoda from Kathy Griffin's book (which is so good!). I had never seen Mary Tyler's show or Rhoda. I loved Valerie's story. It's very interesting and inspiring. Unlike Kathy's book, this book is not packed with jokes, it's just interesting to hear about someone trying so hard to get what they wanted. Her perseverance and her extremely positive attitude towards everything in her life are very admirable. It did make me regret not knowing abut her when she performed in so many wonderful plays. I would have loved to watch her in "Looped" or "The Tale of the Allergist's wife"What was one of the most memorable moments of I, Rhoda?
