Chapter 34: "There ought to be more drama." -Jess

Its not that the story was bad by any means - you can see from my ratings that I enjoyed the story and narration. There were times that the narrator came off as a little over the top and her way of speaking reminded me vaguely of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory but she was overall a pleasant narrator to listen to. The author definitely did not let the main character achieve all her goals easily but I do feel like the plot of the story could have allowed for Jess to be put through so much more and to be able to really show her growth better through the story.

Great but stressful

Excellent, engaging story. But not a feel good novel. Worth a listen when you have the bandwidth for it!

Well written

Interesting story line. Unique survival story. Believable plot. Well read and performed. Kept my I interest throughout

Fabulous story line

This is the best book I’ve read in a long time. I loved the growth of the character. I thought the storyline was going to be a repeat of one I've read before but it was a good twist. Loved seeing a female character with strength and smarts.

Strong young female lead survival story

I love the technical realism, I loved the strong character of the young woman, I loved the embracing of her vulnerabilities as well as her strengths. I loved the bond between the girl and her dog, and the realistic strength that comes from the bond between Owner and animal.

I loved the whole book,

The book was great, the story was fairly realistic, it could have happened,
the way she handles things,the setbacks and the dramatic parts and yes I cried with her over Bo at the end.
overall excellent book and narration

Wow! Great Performance and Story!

I generally only listen to a story at work when driving. This one I took home and listened to as well. It was great, intense, and inspiring.

It drops the tropes of a Female protagonist.

Not once does male come in and save her from an intense or hopeless situation! It happens to often in books and it's great to see in not happen in this book.

WOW. JUST. WOW.

All I can say is, I've never read anything more evoking than this. I absolutely could not stop listening. This is the greatest book in this genre I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Amy McFadden is my FAVORITE NARRATOR OF ALL TIME. Put this Author, and this Narrator together and you've got GOLD. AMAZING. OUTSTANDING. LIFE CHANGING. I just got done with this book and am starting it all over again. Perfect plot. Zero holes. So much emotion. STUNNING.

Couldn’t put it down!

Those sometimes gruesome, I love the story about wilderness, survival and resilience and strength! It was one of those stories that kept me really happy while it was snowing outside!

I’m not a fan of drawn out survival books

So I was surprised how much I liked this book. It didn’t seem too drawn out. The characters are likable and I found myself rooting for Jess and Bo. I think the parts about her bum leg were a distraction and completely forgotten in tense moments. Overall, I really enjoyed this audiobook and will recommend it to others. I’m also purchasing it for my junior high library.
