Acerca de esta escucha

In the wilderness, one false step can make the difference between a delightful respite and a brush with death.

On a beautiful summer afternoon in 1998, Dan Stephens, a 22-year-old canoeist, was leading a trip deep into Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park. He stepped into a gap among cedar trees to look for the next portage - and did not return. More than four hours later, Dan awakened from a fall with a lump on his head and stumbled deeper into the woods, confused.

Three years later, Jason Rasmussen, a third-year medical student who loved the forest's solitude, walked alone into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on a crisp fall day. After a two-day trek into a remote area of the woods, he stepped away from his campsite and made a series of seemingly trivial mistakes that left him separated from his supplies, wet, and lost, as cold darkness fell.

Enduring days without food or shelter, these men faced the full harsh force of wilderness, the place that they had sought out for tranquil refuge from city life. Lost in the Wild takes listeners with them as they enter realms of pain, fear, and courage, as they suffer dizzying confusion and unending frustration, and as they overcome seemingly insurmountable hurdles in a race to survive.

The narrator adopted the perfect tone for this book. The writing was engaging, painted the picture perfectly. Having never been to the boundary waters, I was captivated by the descriptions. I would not change a thing, except to have 10 more similar quality to listen to.

Outstanding!

This book draws you in and holds you there to the very end. As someone who loves backpacking and camping it hits you in your gut. What if? The little mistakes these guys made could easily happen to anyone.

This book is narrated by an excellent storyteller. His voice keeps the reader in the midst of everything as it happened.

I give this five stars! You won’t regret hearing this book!

Engrossing Story

Loved this book. It is meticulously written, and offers incredible insights into the odd perils that can befall even seasoned hikers. I listened with incredible fascination, as I have often hiked alone (albeit in easy places with well-marked trails) and never even considered the kinds of things these two hikers experienced. The one thing I wish the writer had included was more "epilogue" information, perhaps interviews with the hikers themselves several years on, saying how it had been for them.

As a solo hiker, I hung on every word of this book

If so, these two characters, who are supposed to be experienced hikers made some very poor choices. Nevertheless, it was a great listen.

Is this a true story?

Two different stories of unexpectedly getting lost woven into a pleasantly spoken narrative. The will and determination of both the outdoorsy and adventurous and of those seeking to rescue are beautiful and real. Once the two stories are kept straight, the listen is great til the very end!

Almost Perfect! Any hiker will appreciate n enjoy

Good stories about two guys who get lost in the wilderness, but because the stories are intertwine, you occasionally can get lost onto which survivor they are talking about. Otherwise, it’s a good read.

Good story, but easy to get lost in it!

Well written! Kept my attention through the whole story. The narrator was easy to listen to, not monotone.

Enjoyed this book

Having camped in the BWCAWA and the Quetico Provincial Park on many occasions, listening to these stories brought back memories of traversing some of the very lakes and areas in these stories. It also reminded me of just how unforgiving mishaps and mistakes can be in these beautiful but remote settings. I also have the upmost respect for the teams and individuals who make up the rescue efforts to assist people in need in these wilderness areas!!!

Enjoyed this book!!!!
