From growing up in Los Angeles with movie star neighbors, bearing witness to the music scene in the 1960s and seeing the rise of comedy in the early 70s, to studying mime in Paris under the tutelage of Marcel Marceau to becoming a founding member of the seminal comedy troupe The Groundlings, it's no wonder that Lorne Michaels offered Laraine Newman a spot in the original cast of Saturday Night Live. There, Laraine was part of the show that changed TV - and comedy - forever.

For more than 30 years, Fred Rogers was a beloved fixture in American homes. Warm and welcoming, he spoke directly to children - and their parents - about the marvels of the world, the things that worried them, and above all, the importance of being themselves. Dressed in his cardigan and sneakers, Fred Rogers offered a wholesome message of generosity and love that changed the landscape of television and shaped a generation of children. Kindness and Wonder pays tribute to this cultural icon: the unique, gentle man who embodied the best of what we could be.

When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

There is absolutely no logical reason why I am here. The life trajectory my nationality and class and circumstances portended for me was not even remotely close to the one I now navigate. But logic is a science and living is an art. The release I felt in writing my first memoir, Not My Father’s Son, was matched only by how my speaking out empowered so many to engage with their own trauma. I was reminded of the power of my words and the absolute duty of authenticity.

Publisher's Summary
DK Audio presents the audiobook edition of I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story, written and read by Anthony Daniels.
Including a foreword written and read by J. J. Abrams and a selection of music from the Star Wars films, composed by John Williams.
"The odds of me ever writing a book were approximately...Oh, never mind. My golden companion worries about such things - I don’t. I have indeed now written a book - telling my story, in my voice, not his - recognising that our voices and our stories are inextricably intertwined."
When Star Wars burst on to the big screen in 1977, an unfailingly polite golden droid called C-3PO captured imaginations around the globe. But C-3PO wasn’t an amazing display of animatronics with a unique and unforgettable voice-over. Inside the metal costume was an actor named Anthony Daniels.
In this deeply personal memoir, Anthony Daniels recounts his experiences of the epic cinematic adventure that has influenced pop culture for more than 40 years. For the very first time, he candidly describes his most intimate memories as the only actor to appear in every Star Wars film - from his first meeting with George Lucas to the final, emotional days on the set of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
With a foreword by J. J. Abrams, this audiobook is a nostalgic look back at the Skywalker saga as it comes to a close. I Am C-3PO: The Inside Story reveals Anthony Daniels’ vulnerability, how he established his role, and what he accomplished, and it takes listeners on a journey that just happens to start in a galaxy far, far away.
"Gloriously witty, keen and spirited" (J.J. Abrams, director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker)
Music from the original motion picture soundtracks for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi was composed and conducted by John Williams. It was performed by the London symphony orchestra in 1977, 1979/80, and 1983. Copyright to the remastered 2018 recordings are held by Walt Disney Records & Lucasfilm Ltd. Music from the original motion picture soundtracks for A Phantom Menace was composed and conducted by John Williams. It was performed again by the London Symphony Orchestra in 1999. Copyright to the remastered 2018 recordings are held by Walt Disney Records & Lucasfilm Ltd. Music from the Star Wars movie The Force Awakens was composed by John Williams, conducted by John Williams and William Ross and performed by the Hollywood Freelance Studio Symphony in 2015. Featured Article: Tap into Your Inner Jedi (or Sith) with the 66 Best Star Wars Audiobooks in the Galaxy
In the 45 years since George Lucas's interstellar fantasy epic Star Wars first hit theaters, the saga has grown to include 12 canonical feature-length films (and counting), a growing number of shows (both animated and live-action), and hundreds of novels and comics inspired by that galaxy far, far away. But there's nothing quite like the magic of a Star Wars audiobook. The stories featured in this collection are as vast and varied as the universe in which they're set.

A Life of Being That Droid
Great walk down memory lane with Anthony Daniels, as C3PO or just Threepio. I have the autographed copied of the book, but hearing it from Daniels, himself, is having him tell the story to you...so much better than reading it on pages. Story begins in 1977, and now, 2019, will end the Threepio story with Rise of Skywalker. Wonderful audiobook, a Star Wars fan collectible.

Great
I enjoyed this memoir. I have seen the Star Wars movies in bits and pieces. One of these days I will sit down and watch them in order and all the way through. I was surprised to learn there was a man inside the costume of C-3PO. I guess I thought it was an animated robot with a man doing the voice.
The book is well written. Daniels provides information and in-sight into his role as C-3PO; but, not a lot of information about the movie or other actors, which worked out fine for me. If you are a C-3PO fan, you will enjoy this memoir.
The book is nine hours and twenty-seven minutes. Anthony Daniels does a good job narrating his own book.

Entertaining but not interesting.
I really wanted to love this book, to get Anthony Daniels perspective and thoughts on C-3PO. You get a little bit of that, most of this book is him complaining about not getting enough recognition. He also has constant jabs at George Lucas and the prequels, even suggesting that only children could enjoy the prequels. That definitely erked me a bit.
His "insights" aren't every insightful, Most of the time he just talks about how uncomfortable he was in the suit. It begins to get very repetitive, also he will just gloss over most of the movies with episode 4 and 9 getting the most attention.
If you wanted to learn more about Anthony Daniels the person, this isnt the book for you. This is just his experience of playing C-3PO and is brief thoughts on the making of the movies. If your a big enough star wars fan to read this book, you'll probably already know most of the behind the scenes details that he writes about.
Hearing about the stuff outside of the movies was easily the most interesting, hearing about his work on star tours and several lego projects was really interesting. His involvement in the original star wars celebration was great to read. His performance reading the book was genuinely great, I'd be happy to listen to more books narrated by him.
I have allot of respect and admiration for Anthony Daniels and what he brought to Star Wars, it truly wouldn't be the same without him. This was an entertaining read/listen, just not an overly interesting one.

Delightful!
The first time I saw this in the bookstore I almost bought it, and flipping through it I decided to put it back on the shelf. I've been a Star Wars fan since I was 9 years old when the first film hit the screens. And who doesn't love C-3PO? The book seemed to be made up of short anecdotes about the making of the films from Mr. Daniels' perspective. I thought to myself, this might be even better as an audiobook. A month or so later I decided to download and listen to the Audible version. What a delightful piece of storytelling! Listening to Anthony Daniels narrating his own stories of the thrills and spills, the joys and frustrations of being C-3PO made me walk around with a silly grin on my face whenever it was playing. Often I laughed out loud and occasionally it made me misty-eyed. I got a huge kick out of Mr. Daniels' changing his voice to sound like the other people in his story-- George Lucas, Mark Hammill, Ewan McGregor-- and when he impersonates Sir Alec Guinness he sounds EXACTLY like the legendary actor. (It's easy to forget that C-3PO was trained and has worked as a classical stage actor.) If you are a fan of Star Wars, I highly recommend listening to this book.

Stories from an Icon
And speaking of icons...seriously, why have we not yet made that Oscar Statue a tiny C-3PO yet? And then give this man an Oscar? This story gave me a deeper appreciation to the work it took to make 3PO a fully realized being you fall in love with from the start. This was such a fun listen, and so honest- Mr Daniels pulls no punches in the most polite, lovely way. This is one of those autobiographies I’ll end up listening to more than once. For having such a limited field of view behind that mask, this man saw so much over his decades giving life and humor to this beloved droid. Thank you!
