Publisher's summary

A law professor and author teaches non-attorneys how to think like a lawyer to gain advantage in their lives—whether buying a house, negotiating a salary, or choosing the right healthcare.

Lawyers aren’t like other people. They often argue points that are best left alone or look for mistakes in menus “just because.” While their scrupulous attention to detail may be annoying, it can also be a valuable skill.

Do you need to make health care decisions for an aging parent but are unsure where to start? Are you at crossroads in your career and don’t know how to move forward? Have you ever been on a jury trying to understand confusing legal instructions? How to Think Like a Lawyer has the answers to help you cut through the confusion and gain an advantage in your everyday life. Kim Wehle identifies the details you need to pay attention to, the questions you should ask, the responses you should anticipate, and the pitfalls you can avoid. Topics include:

  • Selling and buying a home
  • Understanding employment terms
  • Creating a will and health care proxy
  • Navigating health concerns
  • Applying for financial aid
  • Negotiating a divorce

Wehle shows you how to break complex issues down into digestible, easier-to-understand pieces that will enable you to make better decisions in all areas of your life.

career change

It was a heart felt intro to lawyer-ing.
It makes me consider learning the LSAT and joining law school.

Framework for solving problems

Kind of short. Suggest maybe a part two with additional examples for solving or approaching problems.

Best Insight into Law

I am a young professional with an interest in pursuing law (health policy). I had a limited idea of the framework of law school and working in the field before listening. This book has everything I needed to know and provided many heartfelt insights through Kim Wehle’s lived experiences, which helped me feel engaged with the content. Every chapter is intriguing and fun to listen to. It’s a must read/listen if you are interested in improving your life and personal success. I look forward to purchasing the print version and reading it again and again. Thank you for writing, Kim. You are seriously inspiring.

Nothing Burger 🍔

I can honestly say there's not much substance to this book in my opinion. Many better ways to spend your money.

Meh

The best part of this title? It's under 5 hours long. Barely. Getting. Through. It. Might be a better read than a listen, as the dense acronym references may resonate better on printed page. Narrator is over the top intense. Wouldn't recommend.
