Publisher's Summary

Number one New York Times best seller

From the People’s Choice Award winner for Favorite YouTube Star and host of NBC’s upcoming A Little Late with Lilly Singh comes the definitive guide to being a bawse: a person who exudes confidence, hustles relentlessly, and smiles genuinely because he or she has fought through it all and made it out the other side.

Lilly Singh isn't just a superstar. She's Superwoman - which is also the name of her wildly popular YouTube channel. Funny, smart, and insightful, the actress and comedian covers topics ranging from relationships to career choices to everyday annoyances. It's no wonder she's garnered more than a billion views. But Lilly didn't get to the top by being lucky - she had to work for it. Hard.

Now Lilly wants to share the lessons she learned while taking the world by storm and the tools she used to do it. How to Be a Bawse is the definitive guide to conquering life. Make no mistake, there are no shortcuts to success, personal or professional. World domination requires real effort, dedication, and determination. Just consider Lilly a personal trainer for your life - with 50 rules to get you in the game, including:

  • Let Go of FOMO (fear of missing out): Temptation will try to steer you away from your goals. FOMO is just a test for your priorities, a test that a bawse is ready to pass.
  • Be Nice to People: Treat niceness like an item on your daily to-do list. People will go out of their way to help and support you because you make them feel good.
  • Schedule Inspiration: Lack of motivation isn't permanent or a sign of weakness. Expect it and proactively schedule time to be creative.
  • Be the Dumbest: Challenge yourself by surrounding yourself with people who know more than you do. It's a vital way to learn and improve.

Told in Lilly's hilarious, bold voice and packed with candid stories from her own journey to the top, How to Be a Bawse will make you love your life and yourself - even more than you love Beyoncé. (Yes, we said it!)

Warning: This book does not include hopeful thoughts, lucky charms, or cute quotes. That's because success, happiness, and everything else you want in life need to be worked for, not wished for. In Lilly's world there are no escalators, only stairs. Get ready to climb.

“Lilly is a bona fide #girlboss, boss, and bawse. Her meteoric rise has come with so many incredible lessons that we are all lucky to have access to. This book is a must-have for the hustler in all of us.” (Sophia Amoruso, founder and CEO, Girlboss)

Best audio book reading I've ever listened to!

Lilly does a fantastic job reading this! I loved the fact that there were some exclusive audio only surprises. That was an awesome touch!! And the actual content of the book was hilarious, heartwarming and inspirational. The second I finished it, I bought two copies to give to my brother and sister.

Finished it in two days!

Ever wished you could get some advice or tips from Superwoman? I felt like Lily was talking directly to me. The audio version of this is AMAZING!!! Lily does a great job and even brings on other people to read special chapters... uh like Alicia Keys! Lily really opens up about herself and her journey yet squeezes in refreshing jokes at every chance. This book was so easy to listen to and light but substancial at the same time. Loved it! Highly recommend!

PHENOMENAL! LIFE CHANGING! MUST READ!!

MUST READ for ANYONE seeking to become SUCCESSFUL. better than the ever popular "think and grow rich". Im 25 yr old entrepreneur that has been following Lillys channel and media since at least 2012. (thats not why i gave 5star errthang, anyone that reads will know it was 100% worthy) btw i say 'at least' 2012 cuz i dont remember a lot from before then. my dad committed suicide 4/22/12 which i soon developed severe PTSD from, symptoms including memory loss, and depression. Lilly's work and EXAMPLE has helped me recovered over the years. (my fave part of the book was the out of the blue's). im in a leadership position with a lot of people counting on me. i work with self made millionaires and also study success.. the concepts in this book are not foreign to me but the way Lilly translated them and coming from LILLY, A WOC, someone i could relate to, IS AMAZING!! great entrepreneurs love to study highly successful people (speaches, audios, books) but whats truly unique and HUGE is that Lilly has daily vlogs. you can see in real time the peaks and valleys, the daily activity/schedule, heart to heart talks.. what has this got to do with the book? EVERYTHING idk anyway, i believe this book should be studied and curriculum for kids in schools. if they can learn this everything else they need will come and the world would be a better place. should be studied/curriculum for adults too.. for everyone. seriously. imo. THANK YOU LILLY

Bad suggestion on Audibles part

While Lilly seems like a great hardworking woman this book is not in any way a book I should've listened to. It is absolutely for millennials and the YouTube generation.

Perhaps too upbeat - but it radiates positivity.

Although it is definitely inspirational, it is also slightly too naive for my taste. Kudos to Lilly for her self-confidence and positivity (which is, in itself, a great achievement in life) and especially her enthusiasm in the book (she's extremely expressive and enthusiastic in the audiobook version!). However, it is precisely this excessive amount of enthusiasm and positivity that kept me at a distance; as if the book is more applicable to a much younger audience.

The tone of the book is humorous and light, so if you like this style of writing, the book is for you. In my case, this made it more difficult for me to take her seriously. Nevertheless, it's an upbeat book which can only bring positive changes into your life filled with numerous positive suggestions and even quick exercises which are nicely systematized.

Not worth your time.

Any additional comments?

I couldn't even finish the book. Too over the top, trying to make up for the lack of substance I guess. Nothing against Lilly but not for people over the age of 20.
