Publisher's Summary

The popular pastor and New York Times best-selling author of Love Wins and What We Talk About When We Talk About God shows us how to pursue and realize our dreams, live in the moment, and joyfully do the things that make us come alive.

Each of us was created for something great - we just need to figure out what it is and find the courage to do it. Whether it's writing the next great American novel, starting a business, or joining a band, Rob Bell wants to help us make those dreams become reality. Our path is ours and ours alone to pursue, he reminds us, and in doing so we derive great joy because we are living our passions.

How to Be Here lays out concrete steps we can use to define and follow our dreams, interweaving engaging stories, lessons from biblical figures, insights gleaned from Rob's personal experience, and practical advice. Rob gives you the support and insight you need to silence your critics, move from idea to action, take the first step, find joy in the work, persevere through hard times, and surrender to the outcome.

Like Stephen Pressfield's classic The War of Art, How to Be Here will inspire listeners to seek the lives they were created to lead.

Good book but not a stand alone.

This book feels more like it was written for Rob Bell fans. It doesn't mean it's not a good book, but it feels like it rides on the reputation of his previous work. It is an inspiring work but needed to be fleshed out a bit more.

Not Good...just seemed like random thoughts

I usually enjoy Rob Bell but this left much to be desired. His faith stories seemed like add-ins and after thoughts to please the evangelical crowd. Nothing about relying on God it was more about being here for yourself. He also quoted a surfer and used a cuss word just seemed odd and unnecessary. If looking for self help try elsewhere.

insightful and practical

Just some good, down to earth, doable ways to be here, now. Anyone who takes what Rob says seriously enough to act on it will be the better for it.

Can't Wait to Go Through This Again! Love it!

Would you consider the audio edition of How to Be Here to be better than the print version?

How to Be Here: A Guide to Creating a Life Worth Living - by Rob Bell.
This book is incredible! I finished it in 2 days which has to be a record for me. I even rewound it to re-listen to some pieces because it was so good. I will definitely be going through this one again. It's all things I love: Christ, contemplative, creativity, mindfulness, and living the best life you can. LOVE! Rob is also super fun to listen to. Animated and good spirited.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. "find your one" all you need to know is where you start from. Making a life worth living. "Stop thinking about shit that ain't happening". Everything!

What does Rob Bell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His laughs! And his fun inflections when he starts each section. His candor in how he delivers the meaningful, the fun, the interesting, the stories.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Find your one. What's your one? We all start from one. We cannot do anything about step 15, 16 or 17 until we first do one. Focus on that.

Any additional comments?

Love it!

interesting audiobook but I was expecting more.

good point and principles but I was expecting more depth in the concept of "being here". on a different note I really enjoyed the fact that it was not one of those "only for Christian" book but he presents the material in a way anyone could understand using many principles from the Bible.

Sabbath

The most memorable lesson was on Sabbath. Rob explains it better, but take a day to rest. Learn to be here by mimicking the rest of our Creator.

Just another "positive motivator"-seems incomplete

Would you try another book from Rob Bell and/or Rob Bell?

No

Would you ever listen to anything by Rob Bell again?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of Rob Bell’s performances?

No

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No

Any additional comments?

Like most people who make money off of those searching for a deeper meaning Rob Bell has created yet another reading (or listening) experience that is basically just motivating advice, and should only be used as reinforcement for those already in a positive space. To me, this "positive positive positive" mentality is only half the picture and can lead people to make poor decisions. If you are looking for the entire picture - good, bad, or otherwise - seek out anything by Alan Watts

Not a book worth purchase.

I was disappointed with this book. I thought the author has be enlightened, but apparently not. This book is quite shallow. It basically states you should experience life. That is it, in one sentence. There is nothing moving. It left me nothing to think about.

The only positive thing to say about the audible version is the book was narrated by Bob Bell himself. He does have a good voice.
