Publisher's Summary

Superstar Kiki has it all...except someone to love.

Kiki Loveless is the queen of pop music and has done it all on her own, without a man’s help. So, when her record label hires a bodyguard, she’s determined to protect her independence by driving him away, convinced her trusty can of mace can do the same job just as effectively as any security team. She soon realizes that might be a challenge: Her new bodyguard is Josh Coleman, a hunky former classmate who’s surprisingly persistent and worse, remembers how gangly and shy she was before she became a music powerhouse.

As much as she wants to hate having Josh around, Kiki can’t. He helps navigate cringeworthy paparazzi photos, handle vain male co-stars, and hold back rabid crowds who would do anything to have a piece of Kiki. When Josh is asked to step up as her opposite in Kiki’s music video, it’s not long before she realizes the sparks between them aren’t merely for show.

While everything else is going so well, Kiki’s ex arrives unexpectedly and makes it clear he’d love nothing more than to see Kiki fail - even if it means dragging Josh down, too. With so much at stake, Kiki must decide if shining at the top of the pop charts is more important than risking it all for love.

Couldn’t handle listening to main character any more

Sorry I couldn’t handle listening to the main character’s voice through the whole book. The narration of the first book didn’t bother me as much as the second. I had to stop part way through.

Shiny and Sweet Romance

The characters in this story were masterful. Kiki was the perfect blend of flawed humanity and likable. Josh was everything you could want in a hero, strong and kind. You couldn’t help but be drawn in by their story and want to cheer them along.
This is a highly entertaining and sweet story that will keep you glued until the end!

fun exciting romance

An enjoyable fun, fast paced romance between a popstar and her bodygaurd who she went to school with. Kiki distrusts because she has been used so much from peopke wanting to futher their own careers. Josh remembers shy sweet Kiki from younger and her secrets. Knowing their real selves makes for an entertaining and interesting romance. Throw in a little drama from the ex boyfriend makes for engaging must listen. this story is wonderfully narrated really bringing the characters and scenes to life

Less vocal fry

I loved the book! The story was great! But the narrator was way too valley girl and used too much vocal fry for my taste.

(4.5 stars) - Fun diva romp!

This was a great addition to what's developing into a pretty entertaining series. It's not quite perfect, but it made for a diverting couple of hours & was exactly the kind of escapist fare I was looking for after a grueling day.

Kiki's a tough as nails, independent woman who doesn't need anybody. Until Josh comes along and she begins to realize that sometimes we want to need someone and even need to want someone!

*Clean romance level: passionate kisses

[The narrator does a great job reading naturally & distinguishing the characters' voices]

Good Narration

HOW A GIRL SHINES. Rachel Eliker
Narrated by Megan Meyer
This plot was more than just about the limelight and pop star Kiki. She was a big star, loved her fans, and loved what she was doing. Her love life was a zero, trusting people another zero. On tour they brought in a body guard Josh, bringing in a good chemistry. Deals with insecurity, and wanting someone to love them. Not what they can get or use by knowing them. First to know of this author and enjoyed it, and will look for more by her.
The audio by Megan Meyer was good, added depth to the story.
