Publisher's Summary

Every town has its history and skeletons, but Silent Bend, Mississippi's are darker than most. Ruled from the shadows by the House - the immortal born and their aging, enslaved bitten - everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood.

Alivia Ryan didn't know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.

Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives - Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.

In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented king and the legend of his resurrecting queen hang over everyone's heads, proving loyalty means far more than blood. You'd better watch who you trust in this town....

What a twist!

I didn't think I was going to end up getting book 2- the audio is inconsistent and crackling.
But by the end of the book I was dying for the next one- twist ending!

Ehh

The narration is a bit juvenile, she sounds like a teenager. This book was supposed to be steamy, but it is more like a YA.

Couldn't do it

This was the very first audible book I just could NOT get into. I couldn't even finish it! I only made it a little more than half way througg hoping it would get better. It didn't. I gave it 3 stars in over all and story because I think it really IS a good story, but I couldn't get past the narration. I don't know exactly what it was, but the narrator REALLY distracted me from this book. I THINK it was the performance of the narration but I'm not entirely sure why she did not hold my attention here. I would not recommend listening to this book. I am going to purchase the book for kindle and read it myself whenever I have some time however because I really do think this is a good story.

Twists and turns!! Great story

I fell in love with this book, it's been great. looking forward to the rest of the books. I felt as the narrator hit every emotion correctly, and made the story very pictureable, not confusing.

3/5 ain't bad

I liked it. the so called twist was completely predictable in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it. narrator was good, although at times the fake southern drawl used for different characters became irritating. story had a good pace

Narrator needs remedial English lessons

The story was okay, a bit trite but decent twist on the genre.

BUT the narrator needs remedial English lessons. She mispronounces simple words, gets words mixed up or just flat wrong. Of course it might be the author needing the work for some.

Examples.

1 Impasse is pronounced with a LONG a sound while the narrator uses a short a. It doesn't make the speaker sound cultured, it makes them sound like a dope.

2 rogue and rouge, rouge is red, rogue is something like a thief. This would only make sense if the house was referred to as rouge earlier, tossing it in now makes the book read as odd.

slow middle

I found this to be an interesting and unique story line. The story started off fast paced and slowed considerably in the middle. If you can stick it out it picks up again toward the end.

So good!

I absolutely loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. If you enjoy romance, excitement, and vampires, you'll love it!
