Publisher's summary

Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

The best Andy Carpenter yet!

First, I have thoroughly enjoyed the Andy Carpenter series. There is not another series of books that I have had universally positive feedback from recommendations I have made to friends and family. So, if you haven't listened to (or read) any of the other novels in this series, I would strongly recommend that you start with the first one and enjoy the journey!

You will find the perfect marriage of story and narrator, as Grover Gardner IS Andy Carpenter.

Now, regarding "Hounded"- this is my favorite Andy Carpenter novel. It delivers all of the usual ingredients that make this series so satisfying. Great narration, humor, wonderful characters, a few good plot twists, and adds to it conclusion that is so satisfying, I listened to the end of it several times. :)

Thank you Audible, David Rosenfelt and Grover Gardner!

Rosenfelt hits it out of the ballpark again!

What do an adorable pair of orphaned dog and boy, a murdered police informer, a cop on trial and pills for animal euthanasia have to do with each other? One would initially think, not much. Unless one had the fertile imagination and amazing ability to write mysteries with great characters, good prose and a subtle wit like David Rosenfelt. I just love this series, and the premise is one that is fun to dream of: a protagonist so wealthy he need only work when he feels like it.

Andy Carpenter, his dog Tara and their group of long and loyal friends have not only taken on the job of defending Pete Stanton, accused of killing the police informer, but by unusual circumstances, have temporarily inherited the dead man's little boy and dog to take care of, to avoid their having to go into "the system," while family is sought to care for them. This is the touch that turns this book into a charmer, as the childless Andy has to adjust to having a little person living in his house.

This is always a good series, and I really like it it a lot. Rosenfelt is a great writer--including books that are not in this series (though they are not written with the touch of humor always found in these). I will just have to say that there is some little thing about the voice of the narrator that I don't love. But clearly it is not enough to keep me from listening to these delightful books! Recommend!

Great Story!

This is a great story with a number of inter-woven plots that fit together very well. As always, David includes a ton of humor in with the mystery and the overall effect is one enjoyable experience. And there were a number of surprises in this story that I would not have expected from Andy Carpenter, even after listening to the whole series.

Andy,Tara, and the crew are back. Hooray!

I love the Andy Carpenter series! David Rosenfelt has such a terrific, offbeat sense of humor. The characters are so real and have distinct personalities. This courtroom drama was unique and had a surprise ending. No hints! By all means use your credit on this one. I'll be watching for the next episode. Thanks for the enjoyment David, you're a gem. Kudos once again to Grover Gardner.

One of my Favorite Andy Carpenter's

Great plotting, funny and with a surprising who-dunnit twist at the ending. Not as much doggy stuff in this one. Now I can't wait to see what the future brings to Andy and Tara.

Fast and Fun

More action than a Batman comic book! More smart-aleck one-liners than a Groucho Marx routine! These books are just flat fun.

I love this series...

I have been waiting anxiously for the next book in the Andy Carpenter series and I nearly missed it. It was usually in the Mystery/Legal category. I ran out of books to listen to so I happened to go to Mystery/Suspense (a category I do not often visit) and there is was! I love Grover Gardner as the narrator. To me he is Andy. There is always some humor intermixed in these books and I appreciate that aspect very much. This series is candy to me...

Although there is violence in this book, it is not graphic. Give this series a try... enjoy.

I didn't see that one coming

I've listened to the entire Andy Carpenter series and this one it typical Andy. Yet this time Andy softens and his life changes completely.

If you listen along and sometimes get distracted, just back up a bit and write down what you know about the characters. It helps a lot! There are a TON of people in this story and keeping them straight is a difficult task. It is worth the time though!

Entertaining, well-constructed, nicely narrated

This was my first Andy Carpenter book. I bought "Hounded" with the dog photo on the cover thinking a dog might be essential to the mystery. This was not good detection on my part as that was not true. What you get instead is a very well-constructed contemporary crime mystery set in New Jersey. A few too many murders for my taste, but the first person narrative is entertainingly written by the author and very well-delivered by the narrator, Grover Gardner. There are so many characters you might think you need a scorecard but they're not hard to keep up with as the author reminds you periodically who they are and the essential characters and plot come thru clearly. You don't need to have read other novels in the series to follow along, but now that I've read this one I'd be interested in reading more and getting to know any regular characters better. Other than too many murders, a myriad of characters, and one or two illogical moves by attorney/investigator Andy Carpenter -- all of which are minor blips -- this is a very enjoyable story and listen.
