Publisher's Summary

When 16-year-old Hannah Sheraton is arrested for the murder of her stepgrandfather, the chief justice of the California Supreme court, her distraught mother turns to her old college roommate, Josie Baylor-Bates, for help. Josie, once a hot-shot criminal defense attorney, left the fast track behind for a small practice in Hermosa Beach, California.

But Hannah Sheraton intrigues her and, when the girl is charged as an adult, Josie cannot turn her back. But the deeper she digs the more Josie realizes that politics, the law, and family relationships create a combustible and dangerous situation.

When the horrible truth is uncovered it can save Hannah Sheraton or destroy them both.

Narrator is horrible and law is just not credible

First, the narrator is horrible. The over dramatic tone of her voice is just too much. There are lots of things in the book that are just there for whatever reason--could have been a great segway or plot twister but the author missed the mark. As a lawyer, it drives me crazy to read or listen to a legal thriller when it is apparent the author has little to no understanding of law. Really, the legal standard in a criminal case is beyond reasonable doubt not beyond a shadow of a doubt. Too bad because the story line is good even if you could see it coming before the end of the first chapter.

Narrator sucks

I purchased the audiobook version of this book. The story is good, but I almost couldn’t concentrate on the story bc the narrator is awful. She’s overly dramatic & is a serious heavy breather, which takes away from the story. I want to listen to more stories about Josie, but I cannot handle that narrator.

A brilliant Legal Thriller

The attention to detail in every aspect of this book will draw you in and hold you spellbound until the end. I read this book in Kindle format, then purchased the audio version. The story was even more gripping the second time around. Love the narrator (made me feel like I was watching a movie). Love Ms. Forster's work! Do yourself a favor and dive into this series. You won't regret it!

Narrated for second graders...

The story was good but I had to increase the speed to get through the overly dramatic, almost whining narration...😳
