"Spooks" is the tongue-in-cheek tale of a man who masquerades as a ghost in order to outsmart an unscrupulous suitor and win the heart of a vulnerable widow.

Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and always touching, J. California Cooper’s characters enlighten us and enrich us as they find love in unlikely places. The warm narrations will give listeners a sense of chatting with nosy but well-meaning neighbors over the back fence.

The author is brilliant in articulating and capturing the essence and absurdness with a bit of humor mixed in of what lies in the heart, mind, and character of some folks.

Wish there were more of her book on Audible.

I am an AVID J. California Cooper fan!! When she passed away a few years ago I felt like I lost another Auntie. I have bought her books in multiple sets for friends, soldiers, and family members to share her gift of storytelling and wisdom only obtained by living, learning, and loving. I would love to narrate her books also, but those that did on this one did a fine job. So thank you all!!

I love J. California Cooper. She is my favorite.

She is my favorite writer. I always get lost in her books. I love how her endings are often unexpected. The best person doesn't always end up on top, which is realistic and that's what I enjoy.
