As good as Hollowland

I completed Hollowland and Hollowmen in a weekend of housework and errands that would have felt like a wasted weekend without them. I can see why Amanda Hocking has been described as an online phenomenon. Since listening to Hollowland I have searched for everything she has written and she is quite prolific. My wish list looks like her bibiography...and I have yet to be disappointed. I am not her target audience, it's been a long time since I could claim young adulthood but the genre is producing so many excellent books that I just can't resist. I also have a tween who loves to read (and listen!) and I like to know what she is reading and offer suggestions. Every once in awhile I find an author like Hocking and I get to feel like a superhero in my daughters eyes! Thanks to Amanda Hocking I am metaphorically wearing a giant 'S' on my shirt!

Entertaining read but could have been better

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

After having read the first book - which I thoroughly enjoyed - I was looking forward to this book. Overall I enjoyed it but it was not as interesting as the first. I also didn't believe some of the decisions the characters made when faced with challenges. They made me feel that the originally strong character that had survived by her wits had turned into an airhead. But overall, a good read that held my interest until the end.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was realistic but not what I had hoped for, which leaves room for a sequel.

What three words best describe Eileen Stevens???s performance?

Believable, entertaining, good.

Do you think Hollowmen needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes; to change the ending of the story and if it makes sense, to pick out and follow other characters once all loose ends are tied up with the originals.

Why bring in a whole new cast???

I loved the characters of the first book.... and then this book goes and brings in a whole new cast. I held so much resentment that it was really hard for me to like or care about any of the new characters. What was the point of that? So disappointed to be honest... I finished the book but wasn’t happy with it. Character development in the first book was great, but then she knocks out all of those characters I loved within the first hour of this book. Ugh. Performance was great though.

Character driven story during the zombie apocalypse

Hollowmen book 2 of the Hollows series was about a group of survivors surviving the zombie apocalypse. This small group of characters overcame a few dangerous situations gaining and losing members along the way. When the losses kept adding up they continued to move forward doing everything they could to stay alive. It was a mixture of the Walking Dead and I Am Legend movie. Narrator: Eileen Stevens is the solo performer of this character driven zombie apocalypse story. She had her work cut out for her with voicing all the different male and female characters. Her performance was pretty darn good with good sound quality. While Eileen didn’t read this book word perfectly she chose to improvise in areas that enhanced the flow and transitions. “I know you wish things were different, but they aren’t. This is the way things are, Remy. And they’re not going back to the way they used to be, no matter how much you want them to.” This quote summarizes the the dire situation they are in in this new world.

Overall Nice Short Story

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No

This story needs more meat and potatoes
It makes a great short story, not a full book

So so

I almost DNF'd this at 10% it just took a pretty severe nose-dive from the first book. This book is also about as gory as you get. It also has a whole new cast of characters so the character development has to completely start over for everyone but the main character and I don't think she did as good of a job with this 'cast'.

This book kind of reminded me of a movie sequel to a zombie flick, new cast, lower budget, more gruesome.

All that said, once I got through the first part I was very entertained, the suspense kept me going.
