Impressive

This is the best book. Must read. Witty, elegant, informative and entertaining. There never was and never will be a better English history book.

Very Detailed Account

If you want details...... endless, exact, and often interesting details.... about what happened in the British Isles and the lands with people affecting the British Isles... this book gives those details.

A Great Book

Reading this history of England shows just how much of modern fantasy books pull from English history. Amazing to see just how violent the past really was.

Good One

This is a terrific history written by a specialist historian but not a specialist historian of the English. Well written and full of fascinating insights. I've been listening to the audible version as I drive around in the car, then reading over the same material in the book when I'm home - it is a pleasure, not a necessity, to do this.

I enjoyed this book

I enjoyed the book, Thumbnails of the English ruling class for about 800 years, so the details aren't as focused as if it was a biography of particular kings. If you are an anglophile, this is a must book for you.

Well Written Book

From the times it wads written, highlighting the general sweep of history as known then, but as Well as the prejudices and views of the authors own age.

Well Done

Excellent time line facts put in chronological order which for some like me is a history lesson. Many of the events are familiar but connecting them to the history of England is another history lesson.

Enjoyed It

I enjoyed the book. I love history and this period of English history is not an area I am familiar with. The author is relentless in disparaging the Catholics and I suppose some would be put off by that. A good audiobook.
