My First Cozy Mystery

I was excited to try my first cozy mystery novel as I am a big fan of TV shows such as Midsummer Murders, Hercule, Knives Out, Clue, and other Agatha Christie type films. I have read many thrillers and mystery books before and wanted to see if this particular genre could live up to the screen.
Now this was a book club pick. I was expecting more investigation rather than thought provoking dialog regarding recent political events and past societal down falls. This and the seemingly meaningless separate time line stories of the past kind of threw the stories pacing for me and felt more like filler than anything else.

That being said, this will not be my last attempt at the genre as I am curious to see how classic writings such as Agatha Christie novels can compare. I guess I was expecting more or a Who-Dun-It.

I love this series!

RMB and Sneaky Pie have given us another great treat! This book is timely and very interesting in addition to being incredibly entertaining! I love the dual story lines! As a criminal defense lawyer, past Irish Wolf hound owner, and avid equestrian, RMB and Sneaky Pie write books that feel bespoke just for me!

Where's Rita??

I really struggled to finish this one!! it doesn't read like the other Rita Mae Brown storyline! why weren't the cats involved more in solving the murder? It lacks in Harry being more headstrong & kind of just dropped off in the middle 😳
Sorry, that's my honest opinion. Hope the next one is livelier.

Hiss and Tell

I have enjoyed the the change of generations. At the end it all came together. Dearly love your books. I’m from Charlottesville myself and enjoy the references.

DISAPOINTED!

Rita Mae Brown's books used to be a delight with all the stories of the dogs and cats' participation in the resolution of crimes. Now they are barely part of the story anymore. Now it's all about the latest problems in the news like fentanyl and undocumented migrants etc etc etc. I read about that in the newspapers, I don't have to buy a novel for that. Wish the author would go back to writing just plain mysteries that are neither political nor issues in the news (a good example is Joanne Fluke).

Disappointed

Very little mystery- each book just seems to become more an opinion oriented long conversation(rant) taking place in to different eras Not sure I’ll continue to read/listen to another book

So very disappointed

I had already decided not to buy any more of this series but have credits expiring soon so I took a chance. I recommend others considering buying this book read all the reviews as they almost all agree. We started and were faithful to the series for all the characters, animals and mysteries. However, once the author took off on the history of the 1700’s and left beloved characters and animals behind, the series lost its appeal. I decided to get the audiobooks from the library - which I think is going to be the big challenge for Audible. Why should people pay when the public library has the same audiobook for free? One might have to wait a bit but the trade off is ok. I’m so sad because I loved this series and kept hoping Ms. Brown would listen to her audience and bring back what we have all expressed we loved about the stories…but it seems not to be.

Utterly dull, stilted narration.

Story has no energy. her earlier works were much more lively and engaging. Miss them.
