Publisher's summary

Audrey Sheridan is London's sweetheart, a position that allows her access to the ton and all its secrets. As the enigmatic writer, Lady Society, she is wild, reckless, and speaks her mind. She matchmakes wicked rogues with their perfect wives. But there's one thing she's failed to find since her debut. A husband for herself. And there's only one man she's ever wanted. There's just one problem: He doesn't want her. What's a lady to do to mend her broken heart? Run off to become a spy....

Jonathan St. Laurent is anything but a saint and certainly not husband material. He spent nearly his entire life as a servant to his half-brother, the Duke of Essex. He's trying to play the gentleman now, but it's damned hard when he's tempted by the ton's darling spitfire Audrey. There's something about her that makes him want to abandon the rules of polite society and show her just how wicked he can be...which is why it's better to avoid the minx altogether. When Audrey's plan to be a spy is discovered, Jonathan knows he must move heaven and earth to protect her while guarding his own secret....

Love this Series

I've been waiting for Jonathan and Audrey's story! Heather Wilds is an excellent narrator and the story line kept my interest. I like that we see certain events that took place in other books from the viewpoint other characters in this book. I look forward the Charles' story.

That is such a great series

Mazen continuation to the previous series. The story is about Audrey and Jonathan and I like the twists and turns in the cities but Lauren Smith has brought to the table. Nena rations are great and everything is very authentic. It’s definitely worth my time

Great storytelling

Loved these stories. Listened to all of them for a second time and some for the first time and relished each one. Well written with intrigue, suspense, and love. Loved the way you carried the friendships throughout the series. Job well done Lauren 👍🏻. Narration was well done with great characterizations, accents, and intonations. Smooth transitions from character to character. Great job to Heather, Nathaniel, Carolyn, Tracy, and Catriona, but especially Heather and Nathaniel 👍🏻👍🏻.

Jonathan and Audrey

I have been itching to hear their story since they met in the earlier books. I really like both main characters. Audrey is strong and passionate about politics and equality for women. She is smart and courageous - although, sometimes, a little foolish with her plans. Jonathan, being a servant for most of his life, is not like the other rogues. He is quiet and careful and doesn't display the usual arrogance as the other men around him do. They were both a nice change from previous books in this series.

Sing song voice. Very weird.

I love the story but they should not have published the story with this narration. This song song voice makes it really hard for me to listen to the story. She reads as if she is reading a poem with an annoying rhyme scheme. It's as if she is trying to use iambic pentameter. Yes, her voice is nice but she reads as if their is a question sign at the end of most of the descriptive sentences. As lovely as the story is, I cannot finish listening to it.

Not as good as the previous one's

Firstly- narrator was awful. She made it very difficult to make it through. very monotone and flat.

I really loved this series up until around the 3rd book. it went downhill after that for me. I won't be continuing this series. I had high hopes for Aubry but she just disappointed all the way around.

Not my favorite in the series

So Audrey wants to be a spy - but can’t figure out that Jonathan loves her?? She also can’t figure out not to announce to one and all that her career goal is to be a spy?? This book was so like the previous book that it got to be confusing. I finished it due to my love of The League. Here’s hoping the next redeems the series.

Drags on. Silly and uninteresting.

I was hoping for excitement from the description but after the initial rescue/ fight scene it just drags on and on.

The descriptions are too detailed. Every brick in a home or theater is noted. EVERY outfit the gal wears in described in such boring detail seen through the MMC eyes. REALLY? what man notices that much detail about the trim, cut, of a gown. So mind numbing dull and takes up 1/4 of the content. Move it along please!

Then there is the love interest. The FMC drones on about how he doesn't want her when its obvious through his actions he does. But she is so full of unwarranted doubt from the FMC that it never becomes romantic. Even the intimacy scenes are dull and mechanical instead of hot. I always find it ridiculous when a naive virgin innately becomes an experienced sex kitten on her 1st times... As though giving BJs is knowledge we are born with, or at least these characters are. it's dumb and insulting to the reader.

Finally the espionage... if the FMC was not such a twit maybe she could pull it off. But she is developed as such a unworldly innocent. so silly and immature it makes no sense. One of the most telling lines comes toward the end when the league comment that 'she wants to be a spy but she has gone around telling everyone she is training for it, not a great career beginner.' 😂 I mean its like the author realized she made a mistake and sticks that line in to cover in the nick of time . That about sums up the entire book! Plus, as a couple they solve everything with sex. zzzzzzz Come on this is no James Bond novel.

So far out of the 1st 10 books in the series I've liked only 3. It's almost as if they were written by a different author. hmmmm

narration was ok but had a few recording mistakes that were not edited.

Too modern for this genre

I couldn't get past the first chapter. The story line did not sound true to the time to me - too modern in its sensibilities. Not my kind of historical romance.
