Publisher's summary

Lady Jolene Gerard is running out of time - each moment she remains within the walls of Drumwich Castle she is in jeopardy. Her only chance lies with a prisoner chained to the dungeon walls, a Scotsman who, in return for freedom, helps Jolene and her young nephew escape her cousin's deadly snare. Pursued by murderous villains, Jolene is prepared to fight for her life. But in the arms of rugged Sigimor Cameron, she soon surrenders her heart... He was too late to save the Englishman to whom he owed a blood debt, but not the man's lovely sister. Stunned by his desire for the spirited English lass, Sigimor presses them on to safety, his enemies in dogged pursuit. And while sweet desire speaks a thousand words, the secret they long to share remains locked in a battle of stubborn pride. But when saving Jolene from his enemy leaves Sigimor no choice but to make her his wife, a bargain born of passion can only by sealed by the kiss of true love...

A Warrior Riding with a Laddie in Front on Saddle

I love this story as our hero continues his witty dialogue from Highland Groom, and our heroine is no slouch either in the wit department. Pure entertainment at its best.
Ok, I figured out this author after 7 books, and skipping the order. This author has wit, humor, adventure and mystery in a core romance. This is not a heavy series, but pure light entertainment. Hence I skipped to book 5,6, after some of the heavier earlier adventures book1 to 4.
Yes, after being a Julie Garwood and Jude Deveraux fan of most all of their early career historical romance books, this author after book 1 did not really appeal to me.
However, when I became a loyal fan of reader Ms Dawe, I have come back to this series, for delightful entertainment. I am slowing working my way through the series, back to book 2,3 which I do not yet have. I love the books from number 5 froward as the wit and humor stand out and the heroines have spunk.
I love reader Angela Dawe for male and childrens voices, and her interpretation of this author. Her foreign accents are very good, and I buy just about any story Ms Dawe reads with a Scottish brogue. She is that good. Yes, you do have to get accustomed to her female voice style.
See her in Mystery Marcia Clark series for a great listen. Or Julie Garwoods Sweet Talk, and my most fave Tiffany Snow series.
I do use 1.25x speed to match an authors intent.

Dont buy this book for the naration....it is awful

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Have someone else narrate this book. I like the story but Angela Dawe has an awful cadence it is like fingernails on a chalk board. She goes up and down and screeches her words out.....I will never buy another book narrated by her. She doesn't anticipate the story and her diction shows how little she understands how to tell a story. I have heard 5 year old read better that her.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the interaction between Jolene and Sigmor and I have read several of Hannah Howells books, but I will never ever listen to one.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

NO not ever again

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

NO

Any additional comments?

Jolene, Joleeeen. Jolene Joleeeeeen.

Jolene is my favorite. I love the way her mind works. Smart and independent she can handle any situation, and this big highlander.

WONDERFUL...WONDERFUL...WONDERFUL

Any additional comments?

that was probably the best highlander book I have listened to in a very long time. The narration was excellent...the story was well written and not the usual...arranged marriage scenario. I laughed several times out loud at the banter between the H/H. The female lead was a strong personality and that made for a very interesting story. I would definitely listen to this book again and can't wait for the next one...please please please!!!

Highland Conqueror

Sigimor (pronounced Seymour) and Jolene. Every time I heard Sigimor’s name I thought of the play and movie “Little Shop of Horrors” (Feed me, Seymour!) and every time I heard Jolene’s name I thought of Dolly Parton’s song (Jolene, please don’t take my man). The mind plays many tricks!
Again, a terrific story by Hannah Howell with a stunning performance by Angela Dawe. I love the Murray family series. They all feel like friends.

Simply Awful

The author tells a story which should have been intense and emotional into a boring and absurd tale. The little 3-year-old child, whose life is in danger, is merely a plot device. At no time do you sense our h is genuinely devastated by her brother’s murder and loves her nephew as a mother would love the child she has raised since his birth. Minimal character development that manages to have the characters react in a way contrary to how any human would react in that same situation. To top it off, the narrator fairly shouts the narration in a truly grating voice. This audible is free and; yet, I paid the price of wasting my time. Skip this book and audible and choose Julie Garwood’s Ransom.

Hamnah Howell NEVER fails!

I first listened to Hannah Howells, "McNachton Vampires," series and IMMEDIATELY fell in ❤️ with her books! Such a talented author. As soon as I was done with that series, straight away I saw this series & decided to give it a try! I've never listened to any audiobook series which didn't include the genres: Fantasy, supernatural etc but am so GLAD that I did bc from the second I started book #1 of this series I was SO glad I did! I heartily recommend starting from book#1 of this series & reading them in order. The MFC will NEVER disappoint. I ❤️ how they are always such strong, Fiesty, sassy characters & how the MMC are always so handsome sounding & emotionally available *even tho it usually takes a while for them to realize it themselves lol kind of like most men IRL! 😄
ALL in all I highly. HIGHLY recommend this series, just don't listen to this series in the car with any kids in the back seats 😉 hehe 🌶🌶🌶🥹
Right I'm off to start the next book in this wonderful series.!!!
PS; The narrator Angela Dawe is really great, no complaints there! 👏 👍 ✌🏼

Enjoyable Read

The story had drama, action, strong FMC, family and love. There was OW angst but fizzled out quickly. Great to see MMC & FMC communicating on major issues. Not a fan of the narrator book much more enjoyable. Sweet ending.

Hanna Howell’s books are so amusing and enjoyable to listen. Especially when narrated by Angela Dawe she is Great@

I love the Murray family series as well as their extended family of highlanders. The women are always feisty, brave, full of love and are not afraid of the HUGE alpha males surrounding them. The Alpha males are pure “puddy” catering to their every need. Also and most important the way the revere the children, and always the Laughter!
