Publisher's summary

Set in a haunted manor house in a picturesque English village, this debut novel is a modern-day ghost story filled with emotional complexity and family secrets. Will be irresistible for fans of Eve Chase, Kate Morton, and Shirley Jackson.

Francine Thwaite has lived all her fifty-five years in her family's ancestral home, a rambling Elizabethan manor in England's Lake District. No other living soul resides there, but Francine isn't alone. There are ghosts in Thwaite Manor, harmless and familiar. Most beloved is Bree, the mischievous ghost girl who has been Francine's companion since childhood.

When Francine's estranged sister, Madeleine, returns to the manor after years away, she brings with her a story that threatens everything Francine has always believed. It is a tale of cruelty and desperation, of terror and unbearable heartache. And as Francine learns more about the darkness in her family's past—and the role she may have played in it—she realizes that confronting the truth may mean losing what she holds most dear.

As moving and poignant as it is chilling, Her Little Flowers is a story of grief and enduring love—and of the haunting regrets only forgiveness can dispel.

I loved all of it!

I loved the characters. I especially appreciated that several of the main characters are a bit left. I loved the story, the history. My only wish, is that there was more depth and information regarding Francine’s love interest- and his companion. The narrator did a great job. 5/5!!

Purchased for the narrator, enjoyed the story

I love the narration of Siobhan Waring, so tracked her to this book after enjoying her on other Audible series.
Two of us listen to audiobooks on long drives and this was a bit different genre than usual for us, but enjoyed the story and hope for a sequel with Siobhan’s narration.

Gothic Mystery with Paranormal Elements

This book first came to my attention as Good Reads Awards horror selection, so I was intrigued. Just because there are ghosts doesn't make it a horror! At no point was there anything scary, tragic, sure, but never scary. It's slower pace kept it from being a Thriller, so it's best fit is in the Mystery genre. So if you're going into this expecting scares, reconsider.

It does do Gothic very well, to the extent it feels out of time. It's sent in present day with the backstory 50 years ago, but it feels far older. The mentions of internet searches are just odd and pulled me out. However, it's quite cozy in small-town, British village, cottage and tea, quite cottage-core with gardens, flowers, etc. So A+ for atmospheric vibes, but it's slower pace kept putting me to sleep until I finally relegated it to a daytime read. The central storyline centers around the deaths of small children, so be prepared for tragedy! It does get quite sad.

Enjoyable read

I loved the writing and the narration. The author’s descriptions were vivid and it was easy to imagine events as they unfolded. The narrator was perfect for this book. Despite desperately wanting to know the ending, it was disappointing to realize it ended. I will see if this author has more books.

Great story, ruined by the narrator

A note to female narrators: please don’t use your soft ghostly voice while narrating a book. It comes across as “mushy” and hard to understand.
Thanks in advance.
