Epic space adventure

This exciting, thought provoking, and hilarious book takes you on a wild ride with the crew of the Pequod on their three year voyage hunting Leviathans on Jupiter. I loved all the different characters and the narrator did an amazing job of bringing them alive.

good retelling strangely written

i come to this as a moby dick fan who has never read hall before. i think essentially all of the transposition of characters was well done, but i am bothered by how much this protagonist feels the need to justify herself and imply that the reader is a dolt who is only reading this book for sex and violence ? i wish she were more earnest too.

the actor reading is very skilled. she's basically done 15 different voices it's crazy.

worst book i've laid my eyes on

not only do we have simpler, lesser copy of a classic novel, without any of the subtextual symbolism and meaning, we also have a detestably annoying and unlikable narrator to carry us through it.

nothing happens, nothing progresses, we are told but not shown so many things. "A is acting crazy", oh really? are you going to show us her doing ANYTHING crazy!?

The narrator cannot shut up about sex and having sex, but then we get to it and it isn't even spicy, it's just recounting after recounting of her getting finger banged, it's excessive, emotionless and pointless.

and then there's the cynical, self aware, "i don't take my sci-fi story seriously, so you shouldn't either" tone of the whole thing. I HATE this trend in modern genre fiction. have some sincerity for crying out loud! you don't have to poke holes in everything that happens.

lastly the sperm jokes, not once, not twice, not 10 times. dozens of winks and nudges about the word "sperm", not only do i get it, but it was never funny!! the author/narrator has a 12 year old's fascination at the duality of the word sperm and CANNOT shut up about it.

this book is terrible, Alexis Hall should feel terrible for writing it, the publishers should feel terrible for publishing it, the real authors used for blurbs should feel terrible for letting their names be used on the cover, you will feel terrible for having experienced even a page of this utter garbage.

the audiobook narrator did a pretty good job of different voices, and some of the worldbuilding (while derivative) was interesting.

“Not” Moby Dick

It felt like a horny 16 year old trying not to plagiarize Moby Dick inconsistently. I’m sure this book is for someone but I can’t recommend it. The narrator was a bit too monotone and breathy and I found it creepy at times.

Very boring - Nobody in my bookclub finished it

We all really did try to finish this book but it was so incredibly boring. The book is such a good idea for a story but not good execution, the narrators voice is so boring and monetone, and even the bits where you're supposed to feel stressed come off as insignificant. One review read, "She just keeps getting fingered by random women" and I really should've taken that more seriously because that's all that happened.
