From the USA Today bestselling author of BOYFRIEND MATERIAL and HUSBAND MATERIAL comes a charming New Adult LGBTQIA+ romance perfect for fans of Heartstopper.

Drew’s always prided himself on being the “right” kind of nerd. He plays sports, has a solid group of friends, and never had any problem talking to girls. Sure, he spends time playing Heroes of Legend, the biggest MMORPG on the planet, but it’s just a fun hobby, not his identity. Falling for someone in a video game? Not his style.
Until it is.

Enter Kit: witty, kind, razor-sharp, and a healer who’s saved Drew’s virtual skin more times than he can count. She’s also, turns out, a boy in real life. The realization knocks Drew off-balance, but it doesn’t take long for him to figure out the simple truth—he likes Kit, no matter Kit’s gender.
The real challenge? Kit’s reality is leagues apart from Drew’s. Being online is his life, and while he’s willing to come out of his shell an inch at a time, there’s such a wide gulf between them that Drew’s left wondering: can love truly bridge the distance…or are they fated to remain in separate worlds forever?

I bought this immediately because Will M Watt and Alexis Hall are likely my favorite narrator/author combo-and they don’t disappoint! And the additional narrating cast complimented each other well! the story was clearly a loving appreciation for the gaming community—for non gamers, just know it’s an extremely immersive experience of that world. But there is still enough story for non-gamers to enjoy! Honestly with Will’s voice and Alexis’ pen, you cant’t really go wrong, no matter the subject matter!

An ode to gaming and top tier narration!

It's different and in the beginning it can be a little overwhelming memorizing all the friends of both MCs but I adored it. I LOVE gamer romances or only meet type love stories and this book hit the nail on the head. I also love that even though it's not stated, Kits actions and way of thinking were very ASD in nature and Drew was very neurotypical so it was cool watching Drew grasp and adapt to Kits brain and the way it processes. Nothing felt forced and Ill say again I enjoyed the whole thing

My ONLY note. I hate how the narrator did the main girl friend of Drew's. She was cool and the narrator portrayed her voice too vally girl and airheady for my taste since she was dropping some real world intelligence so frequently...but overall he did good differentiating between so many characters.

So cute!

I knew this would be good because, well, it’s Alexis Hall. They can’t write a bad book. But it was so funny and cute and sweet and just heartwarming. And even though I’ve never played an mmorpg (which I was a little worried would be a barrier in enjoying it) I needn’t have worried. I’ve apparently picked up enough from being around people who played that I didn’t have any issues. The way it took place partly irl and partly online inside the game world was really cool.

I normally don’t like full cast audio, but I really enjoyed this one. It was performed brilliantly by the cast and the sound effects weren’t distracting. It was an excellent experience overall.

Delightful!!

I have a complex feelings about the author after Husband Material but they are one of the best queer romance authors out there otherwise, so I took a shot.

Don’t let the glossary to start put you off. I really struggled with the format of the online gaming text, the pace and characters online for the first few chapter so much so I almost left it but I’m glad I didn’t.

Once I accepted it and saw how the various setting played into the unfolding romance I fell in love with the characters and the issues between them. Really poignant message about real friends, how we spend our time, and how people can affect our decisions but ultimately we are responsible for how we respond. Really loved it all by the end and as a table top RPG guy, understood the online world a bit better.

Unexpected

I have been waiting very impatiently for this one and it did not disappoint. I've read a ton of Alexis Hall's books and I just adore their characters. This one is so sweet and wholesome and set mainly inside of a video game world and I was in heaven. This read felt very cozy.

I listened to the audio and the full cast was just top tier. I will say that it was a bit overwhelming in the beginning figuring out the usernames real names and voices but after a while I figured it out. Also would like to mention that the "in world" music was neat at first, but did get a bit annoying after a while.

Cozy cute queer

I love Alexis Hall’s books so I was super excited for this one. I loved the concept. When the audiobook started I wasn’t sure the chat dialogue, music, and different narrators would work. I had a few minutes where I thought, oh gosh maybe I need to read this book on paper rather than listen to it. But it only took part way through the first chapter for me to get used to it. Then I thought the whole thing was done brilliantly. It was really clever. I love how they played game music every time the story is inside the game. The raiding scenes were so well described. I’m a gamer who hasn’t really played MMOs but the story was told in such a way that it wasn’t confusing and I never felt like the jargon was over my head. And, in true Alexis Hall fashion, the story was sweet, deep, and satisfying. The characters were great. The dialogue was funny and clever. I’ll definitely read it again!

I wasn’t sure it would work

Being a very casual gamer myself this was a really cute and actually touching book. Highlights a few points I bring up with the people I meet on occasion who seem to question the validity of friendships forged online. A very well performed and written story.

Cute storyline

I really liked Alexis Hall's work from before but now I see the same arbitrary problems when drama or a low point is needed and the main character/romantic partner does the something that no one would really do and it annoys me now. maybe it's because I'm finally in a happy relationship that I see this more but the only reason I finished this was because I was on a mmorpg romance binge and it fit.

another hall classic..

I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy a story set in an MMORPG world, but this audiobook completely won me over. The narration is phenomenal—warm, expressive, and perfectly paced. It brought out the emotional layers of the story in a way I don’t think I would’ve felt just reading the text. I found myself genuinely caring about the characters and their relationships, even when the gaming mechanics went over my head. If you’re on the fence, give it a try. It’s not just about quests and stats—it’s about connection, growth, and finding your place.

Surprisingly moving—perfect for audiobook format
