I liked it!

Demons aren't usually my thing, but I saw this recommended on facebook and gave it a try. I'm glad I did. I was more than surprised that I actually liked it. The characters are well developed and the story very creative. It's not as dark as the title would insinuate. The main character pokes fun at herself a bit, and is sometimes a reluctant heroine.

I also was doubly surprised when I actually met the author, who is legally blind, at a conference in New Orleans and she gave one of the most touching award-acceptance speeches I've ever heard. After hearing her speak off the cuff so eloquently, it was clear to me how she could write so effectively for audio. I'll look forward to reading/listening to more from her.

Not all that original but still great fun.

Any additional comments?

A lot of LGBT books have a very thin veneer of a story which is only there to provide a frame for the sexy times. Not so with this book. It's a proper LGBT book and a proper Urban Fantasy.

An Almost Lesbian Romance novel, w supernatural

Would you consider the audio edition of Hell's Belle to be better than the print version?

I wouldn't know I didn't read the book, thank God- I would of throw the book across the room in frustration in many parts. It wasn't one of my favorites. I was sadly disappointment in the book for several reasons.

What other book might you compare Hell's Belle to and why?

The Dante Valentine books, (Sorry straight fiction) The Well of Loneliness by Radcliffe Hall in how reluctant the lead is in becoming a lesbian in the story. It was like the relationship was doomed from the start just by her attitude.

What about Carly Robins’s performance did you like?

Her South Bell infection was perfect for a south bell, Not sure it was needed in this story. Her infection was perfect also, her dramatic pauses all came right on time. No her reading of the book was very good, If I were to flaw the book it would be the writing. (OK If you have guessed I didn't like the book) But it was an over OK book with over OK plot. and I had to give it 4 stars because just because I didn't like doesn't mean other will not love it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Where the said this has been an Auidiobile production and I knew it was finally over with and I could move on to the next book. Again sorry I really didn't like this book. OK if I had to pick a moment it would be at the beginning where she first uses her fire magic for the first time in a fight again a demon and she is really fighting for her life, and she has to use all her tricks, and she cam;t think of a real good reason why she shouldn't use her fire magic to save her own life but you the reader already know it's a bad idea. Its a cool action packed scene where she is fighting for her life.

Any additional comments?

Parts of this book where good, the paranormal parts where good, the action scenes where awesome, it's just that I got tired of I straight but I not, thing in the book. I don't care if you are straight or gay, bi, whatever, it doesn't matter to me, but when you play the maybe I am this maybe I am not, Maybe I don't care to read you. I have come to far out of the closet to play stupid childish games with the books I read to bother. I can understand when a character first discovers and then slowly comes out, and it is a slow process. I understand it. But that wasn't how this book it was presented in this book. Maybe I just took it the wrong way. Maybe it was just me. There were enough good things I still gave it 4 stars though I hated it.

Get to know a real southern bell

The narrator's southern accent fits this novel perfectly. The main character sets out to solve a mystery, but discovers things also about herself and her past. She is intriguing and amusing. This book is a good time, with action and romance in all the right places.

Poorly written, poorly executed.

I generally don't write reviews of works I don't care for. This, however, is an exception. The author used many shortcuts instead of doing the work. For example, in 1st person narration, the cheapest way to describe what you look like is to look in the mirror and describe yourself. The author did this, then carried it even further with pages of inner dialog that anthromoporfized the reflection. It's a cheap shortcut. Additionally, the main character's body parts seemed to move on their own. Something like, "My hand reached for the doorknob." You should just say, "I reached for the doorknob." Or, better yet, "I opened the door." It's one of the challenges of writing in first person. In this book, however, body parts had minds of their own. The thing that frustrated me the most, however, was the fact that no dialog or action scene could go for more that two sentences without spending another three or four minutes on inner monologue. It made scenes extremely choppy and sometimes I'd forget what was actually happening. Worse, the inner narrative continually rehashed old ideas; ideas that had been talked to death in the mc's head multiple times before. I like long books, I like feeling that I got my money's worth. This book, however, world have benefited greatly from some serious editing. The narrator had one voice basically for every character, except for the love interest who had a terrible Cajun accent and a Swedish vampire who sounded Irish. There is nothing I would recommend about this book. It's full of tropes, clichés, and so much inner dialog I wanted to scream. I finished it because the author built up quite a bit of sexual tension between the mc and her love interest. I wanted to see how it was resolved. It wasn't.

Wonderfully entertaining

I listened to this on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. I love it when I am unable to stop listening. Totally enjoyed the narrator’s take on the story. I hope the next in the series will be made soon and hopefully read by Carly Robins.

Finally!

Finally, a GOOD lesbian paranormal story! I have been searching for something like this! The only thing I do not like is that this is the only book from this author that Audible carries! Hopefully, there will be many more from her! This is a lovely story and is very believable! The amount of suspense was just right, and I couldn’t stop listening! I eagerly await the next book!

Pleasantly surprised!

I thought it was a good story and I am so glad that it didn’t devolve into being only sex! So many times stories about supernatural things turn into just sex and lust and the actual storytelling takes a backseat. It’s OK for things to get a little bit hot and sexy sometimes but if that’s all the story is for it gets old fast. If you like magic, fighting, and some steamy scenes of women loving women then I think you’ll enjoy this. The world that was created is interesting and I’m looking forward to hearing more stories set in it.
