Publisher's summary

Third installment in the New York Times best-selling Rose Gardner Investigations series.

They say the road to hell is paved in good intentions, and Rose Gardner can’t shake the notion she’s headed there in a handbasket. She feels responsible for the death of a woman she tried - and failed - to save with her visions, and though she intends to do the “right” thing and tell James Malcolm she can’t possibly accept his offer of a relationship, she hasn’t yet mustered the strength. Worst of all, her sister is terminally ill, and there isn’t a thing she can do to save her.

When a new case falls into Rose’s lap, she eagerly shifts her attention to someone else’s problems - except it’s Henryetta, and every person, and problem, is somehow connected. The case will bring her back into contact with James, whom she still hasn’t answered, and force her to confront her past in other unexpected ways.

Meanwhile, Rose and Neely Kate find themselves playing host to an unlikely house guest. Helping the stranger may require them to become more entangled with the crime world, something Rose knows she should avoid. She and Neely Kate have the very best of intentions, but are those intentions ushering them down a path they can’t easily leave?

More mysteries and more drama

I loved this installment of Rose once again trying unsuccessfully to live her life drama free. Despite her attempts to not be, Rose is always smack dab in the middle of mystery, small town life, hilarious messes, dangerous moments, and love life drama. Rose is a woman living in a nosy closed minded small southern town. She is good hearted to a fault and experiences visions that she’s compelled to share with the person she has them of. Rose and her best friend and business partner, Neely Kate, are apprenticing with a local PI so they can become PIs in two years. In this book they are trying to clear a local real estate agent, Patsy, of murdering her cousin. In between following the clues, Rose continues to deal with Violet’s upcoming death, whether she wants to date James, her role in the county as Lady, and Neely Kate’s secrets. James, Jed, Maeve, Joe, Violet, and Mason are major secondary characters as the drama unfolds. The book was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters, and a captivating storyline with sweet moments, exciting action, danger, family drama, painful pasts, mystery, plot twists, imperfect characters, missteps, and all the big feels. I am looking forward to reading what happens next in Rose’s life.

Shannon McManus once again did a great job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

I’m hooked

Great summer reading. I was heartbroken about Mason but can’t wait till the next book. In my opinion, books are well moving, great pace. A+ to Shannon McManus. I love her narration. I stumbled on the original series and was hooked! Keep them coming!

Considering Rose doesn't want anyone murdered,

There sure is a lot going on. There are some really interesting characters in these books. The narration was really very well done.

JUST OK!

It seems like these stories are becoming repetitious. They are all good but I'm going to take a break and come back to this series a little later. Maybe it will all seem fresh.

Love this series

I am hooked on this series, although I feel there is TMI in the sex Scenes . She is an awesome writer and makes you feel like you are there and are part of it all. It’s a roller coaster ride between right and wrong, I also love the narrator, she really brings out the characters.

Oh man

I absolutely love these books and the narrator does such an amazing job. Rose finds herself in even more trouble with this book, but the ending is oh-so-sweet. Enjoy y’all 😉

Another fantastic page turner

This was one of my favorite Rose Gardner investigation books! The story kept moving and I could not put it down! Love the narrator but still not fond of Rose and James as a couple. I would have liked Rose to see that she can be independent woman without a man. I feel like she just fell into the same pattern. Sigh, but I still love it and will keep listening.
