Southern Gal meets British Lord

When a young American historian, fresh from earning her Masters degree, is hired to assess the accumulated "stuff" in an English Castle, she has to accept the position. Natalie's mother is drowning in medical bills from her cancer treatment and selling flea market treasures on eBay is barely making a dent. The salary for this job will pay the entire bill. She arrives to find that the man who hired her is the lord of Webley Manor and that the history she's stepped into is more than just stuff.

This fish-out-of-water rom com has fairy tale qualities along with the swoon worthy narration of Shane East. New-to-me narrator Meghan Kelly, certainly has a distinct southern accent, and did a fine job with the other voices she had to create.

somewhat weak female lead

Though I liked this story overall. I would have enjoyed it more if the female lead would have stood up for herself a little more especislly to the male lead's mother. I felt like she just allowed his mother to bully her. That being said, there was definitely chemistry between the two lead characters which added to the romance.

Too bad

This could have been much better if there was a different female narrator. She was terrible.

Getting through this book is a struggle. I'm writing this review at the halfway point of the story.

Shane East is great as always. The story engaging, but I absolutely HATE Meghan Kelly's choices as a narrator. Both of her accents, US broadly Southern and English, are terrible. Her delivery is overly breathy, and her male voices are stilted.

I am really trying to get through this book because I like the story and Shane East, but I may end just reading the book instead.

Appalling North Carolina accent

Can’t even talk about the story because the female narrators North Carolina accent is like… offensive. It’s so bad.

(But also why is this MMC hoarding dogs?)
