This was my first audiobook by Chloe Maine, and while I was pleasantly surprised by some aspects, overall it felt just good.

Grumpy/Sunshine Payoff: Justin’s protective streak and Abigail’s innocence create tension, but sometimes her vulnerability made me pause.

Kink Exploration: I appreciated that both characters were unsure about the daddy kink dynamic but communicated openly. That honesty made their exploration feel collaborative.

Insta-Love: The romance escalates quickly. I don’t mind insta-love, but here it sometimes felt rushed, especially given Abigail’s lack of experience.

🔥 Spice
This novella is spicier than expected. If you’re looking for kink-positive romance, especially daddy kink, this book delivers. That said, Abigail’s innocence occasionally made the dynamic feel like it teetered between fantasy fulfillment and potential exploitation. She does tell us she’s fantasized about this, so I can see both sides of the coin.

🏡 Setting
The cabin setting keeps the story contained, which works for a novella but limited the chance to explore Abigail’s growth outside that space. I wanted more world-building beyond the cabin walls.

🎯 Overall

Strengths: Strong chemistry, open kink communication, protective hero.

Limitations: Constrained setting, rushed insta-love, innocence dynamic that may not sit well with all listeners.

Verdict: A spicy, kink-forward novella that’s worth a listen if you enjoy grumpy/sunshine and protective heroes, but it may leave you conflicted depending on how you feel about innocence in romance.

Wonderful story!

I absolutely loved this story. The love these two had for each other was truly amazing and something that always astounds me. The fact that Justin was immediately drawn to Abby and keeping her safe really showed how much he cared for Abby. The fact that Abby was pretty much kept hostage by her past because of her parents death really hit Justin hard and he wanted to pick her up and make her his wife immediately. Abby had some real trust issues and wouldn’t let Justin get close to her because she expected him to leave her to. He stayed made her his wife and soon to be mother of his child. I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves romance stories especially with a military connection.
