Publisher's summary

The Lord of Darkarrow has been forced to respawn, but things aren’t exactly as they should be.

Kadorax has unlocked a powerful new class that few in Agglor have ever heard of. As a Bastion of Chaos Incarnate, he has the potential to become stronger than anyone has ever been, but he’ll need to carve through an army of jackals just to survive.

Oscine City has all but fallen. The Blackened Blades and the Priorate Knights have banded together for the first time in history. All of Agglor’s most powerful forces have joined ranks to stave off the new threat from the north, and still…it may not be enough.

2nd installment of a phenomenal LITRPG series

It’s always great to come back and check on old friends and see how they are progressing, what new adventures they are going on, etc. that’s exactly the feeling you get when you come back to this 2nd book in the series. The narrator Bennett delivers the tale right to you with all the personalities of existing characters and new ones that are introduced. This 2nd story finds our characters leveling up further and choosing new exciting multi-classes that will aid in their quest involving the soul rod. Great battle scenes wonderfully true to the game character development. Eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Fast action and lots of battles

This book continues the story of Kadorax and I thought it was better than the first book. The action is fast and bloody and the levelling up is interesting. The stakes of respawn are upped a little and the main character grew on me as the author added more depth to him, and to the world as a whole. Some of the questions of the mechanics of the world get answered in this book but there are still lots to be discovered. The narrator adds to the story greatly and I like the voices he does for each of the characters. The action is fast and the tension has ramped up, I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Great Read and Listen

Amazing series and concept. Isn't the usual protagonist gets everything he wants. Voice acting really makes it that much better.

The Rules are about to change

I enjoyed this rollicking and gory clash of warring fiefdoms. It is peopled with interesting characters snatched from different worlds to fight in the gameworld of Agglor. Some of them weren’t even people before—Kadorax’s best friend Syzak was his pet snake on Earth. Now he’s a loyal sidekick Shaman with the powers of Paralytic Envenomation, Two-Claw Defense, and Hardened Scales. Awesome!

Kadorax is a nice guy and a singular badass. He is also a bastion of chaos. He has a soul rod implanted in his chest, which he must protect at all costs, but which grants him strange powers in the gameworld of Agglor. As there are so few of his kind (and why is that, he wonders, in a world of war?), he has to figure out himself what’s up with that soul rod, why he of so few was chosen to get it, and what he’s supposed to do with it. Besides protect it with heavy armor, since it really hurts when it gets hit in battle and could kill him for good, no respawning allowed.

Besides being a really fun sword and sorcery action read, Heavy Armor reveals more of the interesting “god mechanics” of Agglor. In book 1, Respawning, we got a glimpse of it, but it is fleshed out into a Roman “deity” (Virgil spelled backward) who is searching for the great hero, Aeneas. No one knows where Aeneas is, or even what realm or world he currently inhabits, but Ligriv is tired of searching, and is changing the Game. The “natural enemies” of Agglor, the dog-heads (Anubis-like humanoids, reminiscent of Rome’s great opposite, Egypt) are being augmented or switched out for a new set of “natural enemies.”

Let the Games begin!

Those damn dog heads

An amazing addition to the series. Continuing from the cliffhanger left in the first book. This one jumps right back into the action with fur and blood everywhere.

Following the mc through his battles waiting for him to lvl up and see the names of his new skills and descriptions that i love so much.. Still wanting him to build the way i would. Sometimes we agree but not always.

Through the mc's eyes we learn more about the world and how it works. If you had any questions about its mechanics, the people, both born in or brought to this world , and the reason for respawn, most of that gets answered. Bringing more questions, of course.

I cant wait for the next book in this series. I really enjoy the world and how the author, stuart thaman, illustrates it. The battles and fight scenes as well as skill names and descriptions are some of the best I've seen anywhere. Including actual games for the skills/descriptions. Its enjoyable and easy to follow along and listen too.

The narration is done well, i like the voices done for each charcter.

This is definitely a series id recommend to anyone.

the narrator is horrible

the narrator is horrible with an awful nasal voice on top of that we have to listen to every minor detail that runs through MCS head give the story of three narrator one would have given overall at 3 but the narrator was so horrible I felt the need to give overall a1 why do so many authors how to explain everything in such miniscule detail also the author doesn't seem to be able to do combat with people acting at the same time and other words MC stands there doing absolutely nothing while a major spell is gearing up and he is just gawking waiting for it to be enacted don't waste your time with this book

A twisted LitRPG that I couldn’t put down!

This LitRPG is indeed epic and from the start it feels different. I think it helps that the main characters die in the opening chapters.

Then unfolds a truly delightful story that meanders you around with some nice twists and a lot of building and then you get an almighty cliff hanger.

I had so so many questions and yet I didn’t feel cheated but enthused to start the second book and hopefully find out the answer to my questions.

The narration is good and the characters feel real and distinct.
The narration adds to the story as an overall world.

The book feels like a good mix of fantasy with elements of RPG the handling of RPG elements like stats feel fluid like an internal monologue as opposed to narrated to the characters.

I am stoked to read/ listen to the next book and hopefully you might pick this up and give it a try.

I did receive this audiobook as a free review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review which I have provided above.

Story escalates well with this instalment

This is not an idea place to jump into the series, picking up right from where book one left things and you'd be better off reading that one before this as it is also an entertaining listen.

The main character develops fairly well in this book with him seemingly showing more maturity and better awareness of the big picture of the world as a whole than his previous incarnation or at least that's how it seems from flashbacks and references to his former self. The supporting cast is a bit mixed, some of them seem interesting, but then there are others that seem to be merely a convenient plot device to deliver better gear, transport etc. and it'd also be nice if his lizardman best friend got a bit more depth too.

The narrator helps with the enjoyment of this book with a pleasant and distinctive range of tones for the case.

Overall, a good sequel that escalates things nicely.

Brilliant!

Such a great listen!
Definitely my favourite LitRPG series so far. When it got to the end I was devastated; I can’t wait for the next book!
It’s so well balanced with lots of action, great characters and the character progression is thought out perfectly.
The narration is amazing too. Scott does a great job with all the characters, has great pacing and portrays the tension so well. His voice really suits this book!!
This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.
