Vietnam vet Dave Robicheaux has turned in his detective's badge, is winning his battle against booze, and has left New Orleans with his wife for the tranquil beauty of the Louisiana bayou. But a plane crash on the Gulf brings a young girl into his life - and with her comes a netherworld of murder, deception and homegrown crime. Suddenly Robicheaux is confronting Bubba Rocque, a brutal hood he's known since childhood, Rocque's hungry Cajun wife, and a Federal agent with more guts than sense. In a backwater world where a swagger and a gun go further than the law, Robicheaux and those he loves are caught on a tide of violence far bigger than them all.©1996 James Lee Burke (P)1996 Simon & Schuster Inc., AUDIOWORKS Is an Imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc. As always Burke's stories are exceptional and done with an amazing and intimate flavour of the deep south..

Typically Burke and Robicheau's memorizing world. Dark, poignant and haunting to the finish.

Wish it were longer

This is a short story and that is the reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. You want more. the narrator does a fantastic job of being the hero. It is an exciting story. You will not be able to put this one down.

Hard Hitting Cajun Mystery

Writing is great! Wish I could have found an audio version that was not abridged.

Being a Southerner and can really relate to everything in the Burke books... I find them hard to put down. Thirty one years as a Detective only adds to the spice!! I have read all of the Robicheaux novels and now I am going back through them on Audible. Will Patton is great as a narrator

Another Spellbinder by Burke

What an incredible book. I’ve never been to Louisiana in my life but the descriptive terms used by Burke were magnificent. I thought I could smell the water, feel the sweat dripping down my brow and hear the herons and pelican as they flew by. Great listen, even better story!

Louisiana never sounded so beautiful

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would not change the story. I like it as it is written and love reading stories set in an area where I've lived a large part of my life.

What other book might you compare Heaven's Prisoners to and why?

Nothing comes to mind at the moment

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I didn't care for the performance because the reader mispronounced most of the Cajun words/names. Having lived in the area and hearing those all my life, this was a major distraction for me. So much to the point where I will not purchase another audiobook in this series. I will read on Kindle.

Could you see Heaven's Prisoners being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No

Any additional comments?

none

Better to read than listen
