Story
I've had to move out of the city and into the house I inherited here, in the idyllic fishing village of Porthcove, but only for as long as it takes to sell it. You see, I need the money, so I've started seeing some of the locals, you know, as patients, but I tell you, there's something really disturbing about charming neighbors sharing chilling secrets. And it isn't just that. It's the other things. Strange, inexplicable things. It started with odd smells, creepy sounds, and then the intruders...oh God, the intruders.

Story
For years, the abandoned MacKenzie mansion remained hidden in rural Wisconsin. Rumors and stories of apparitions, odd noises, accidents, and strange deaths in or near the property were enough to convince the townsfolk it was haunted, and they stayed away. Lucas MacKenzie and his brother, Nate, know nothing of this when they inherit the property and decide to bring their families to Wisconsin for a major renovation project with HGTV stardom in mind. As they tear out old fixtures and open shuttered windows, the house begins to reveal secrets of a terrible past.

creative, creepy and funny
I love and have read many, many haunted house stories and was not sure what to expect with Tony Marturano's Haunted. I was pleasantly surprised with the mysterious/creepy plot, great characters and especially by the way the fantastic narrators brought those characters to life.

BEST BOOK, SUPERB NARRATION, WITH SFX!
This is not my first Tony Marturano listen, but it has probably got the be the best!
For me, Haunted hit all the right notes. Great story, well-rounded characters and really creepy! All complimented nicely with an array of special effects. For me, I felt like I was in that house with Marco and Buddy the dog experiencing what they were experiencing.
The five-star ratings are not an exaggeration, this book truly deserves it.
The book does come with a spoiler alert right at the beginning which isn't in the description so I would say that I highly recommend Haunted but also recommend listening or reading Psychosis first for the complete experience.
I really hope there's another in the series!

Dreadful, awful nonsense
This is a remarkably dreadful offering. If you thought book one was bad then this is ten times worse. A study in spinning out nothing to say indefinitely.
I have finally finished listening and feel I need to return to my earlier review to record yet again my astonishment and even wonder at the sheer awfulness of this work. The author is to be commended for his stamina if not for his talent.

Unengaging, Repetitive and Contrived
I gave this audiobook 6 hours before losing interest.
The thing just doesn't hang together. First off, there's a contrived writing device whereby the author addresses his audience as participants or 'active' observers in the story. There's a continual run of chummy, first person, phrases like 'You'll remember what we discussed last week...' or 'You were there right?'. No, we weren't mate. We're listeners or readers. Nothing else. This kind of faux engagement doesn't work. There are also numerous plugs to the author's previous work along much the same lines - 'You know what happened last time...' and the like. No, I don't. Furthermore I've now no wish to find out.
Second, the script is limpid and repetitive. For example, lost count of the times the main player seeks alternatives to the 4 letter 'F word'. It's like a bingo game using the F pages of a dictionary. Plot twists rarely delivered.
Third, I neither liked the characters or found them believable.
Fourth, the narration. It's okay but unexceptional.
All in all, neither an author or a narrator I will be revisiting. I read, or listen to, a lot of books. I like many more than I don't. In either case, I seldom give up on a book midway through. This one falls into that category. I truly can't understand its high ratings.

Awful!
Had to finish it but it was an awful book. Very repetitive and dull. Not spooky at all and just unbelievable. The 'non-swearing' was irritating and just an unnecessary part of the story. Spooky parts were repetitive, the same 'scare' over and over. The story had absolutely no substance or depth.
The reading was good and the special effects were also good.
