THE NEXT INSTALLMENT IN THE PULSE-POUNDING GANNON SERIES FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING COAUTHOR OF JAMES PATTERSON’S MICHAEL BENNETT SERIES

Mike Gannon always wanted to go to Alaska. That’s why when a bucket-list grizzly bear trip to the Klondike comes up, he’s on it with both feet. But as he arrives up in the northern wilds, he discovers other hunters are there. And they’re not looking for grizzly.

Soon Mike finds himself alone and captured on a corporate plane heading southbound for an incredibly lethal encounter that is about to blow his mind before it tries to blow him away.

Mike’s enemies are in the driver’s seat until they realize they overlooked one simple thing.

Some men are easy to handle, but there are other men who are…hard to break.

Tough guy

True to his roots taking on cartels and the CIA in Peru and elsewhere. The ending let you use your imagination somewhat and a few loose ends, but overall a great book.

the book was good, the narrator was awful. He made it difficult to get through the entire book.

I do love an elaborate assassination scheme

The series gets more and more pulpy, like 80’s Bond movies instead of the new Daniel Craig ones.
And what would a Bond movie be without some slyly macho jokes, an unhinged villain, and elaborate death traps? Grab the popcorn and don’t think too hard on the unlikely coincidences.

Unfortunately, any supporting characters from the prior two books are soon abandoned in favor of a Gannon-a-mano, one man legend taking on Peruvian drugs lords and, of course, Them.
I enjoyed the one or two allies he finds along the way and really enjoyed the main villain.

My favorite parts, however, are the comedic bits, from Gannon’s inner monologue to the increasingly hyperbolic legendary status given to him by his foes and allies alike. Listened to much of this while driving, so I’ll end with the only quote I remember about the man, the myth, the Lion:
“The dude had king sized balls, the size desperate housewives did Pilates on.”

Love all of Michael Ledwidge’s thrillers

Well-written tight plots with great characters and exhilarating twists and turns. Also, unlike many current thrillers like Patterson, Connelly, and Brad Thor, Ledwidge happily does not spew the names “Christ” and “Jesus” out of his characters’ mouths as curses.

Good but liked less than preceding

This is the fourth book by Michael Ledwidge that I’ve read and the third in his series of Mike Gannon. Ive thought from reading my first of these books that they should be turned into movies!
I’m grateful that I enjoy a variety of books genres, otherwise, I’d have missed this author and series which I’ve found quite entertaining — even with the stories’ core which is the violence and desperation among ruthless, powerful, greedy men. In a nutshell: good (not perfect, but upright in his own Navy Seal way) guy who is superlatively skillful, up against ruthless, power monger crooks in the US government as well as fellow traveler international deadly scoundrels. Good guy prevails against great odds — every time, but not w/o razor’s edge challenges. Along the way in each book, we find our guy Mike Gannon in interesting settings and also assisted in overcoming the evil doers by colorful, skilled additional characters that add some depth and fun to these stories.
I found the first book to be the best, followed by the second in appeal & though not my fave in series, this one, Hard to Break. Glad I didn’t miss it.
The narrator I think does a really good job with this series: totally appropriate, kinda “tough guy male” basic but he can modulate and adapt to create the voices of all of the characters well.

A bit disappointing sequel to a great series

This audiobook was rather disappointing, especially compared to the two earlier books in the series. The book dragged quite a bit in the middle and was definitely slower paced. I also found the narrator's consistent habit of seemingly ending every quoted conversation with a raised pitch quite off-putting.

Fun read

This was a great laugh book of the Ganon trilogy. My favorite of these was the first one, but I thought the author ended this really nicely, of course, with our hero of the day winning again!
