Publisher's summary

He’s a gorgeous former Interpol agent.

Tall, dark, and Italian.

He’s way out of her league, but when danger explodes around them, she finds herself on the run with the sexiest man she’s ever met.

CIA analyst Gabbi Hansley has a plan—escape her dysfunctional family, excel at her job, and build a safe, stable life for herself. Boring? Maybe, but she likes boring. When tasked to meet a security contractor and give him an encrypted drive, a quick, simple job goes terribly wrong.

Gabbi didn’t expect her contact to be the hottest man she’s ever seen. Nor was she expecting the bad guys who turn up and spray the restaurant with bullets.

After years of wading through the muck, dismantling Mafia crime syndicates in Italy, former anti-Mafia officer and Interpol agent Matteo “Hades” Mancini likes his job at Sentinel Security. He also knows he has nothing permanent to offer any woman, so he keeps things fun and temporary.

But when his dangerous past rears its head, he finds himself trapped with the tough, no-nonsense Gabbi, and on a second glance, he sees past her sensible exterior to the tempting woman beneath.

Now Gabbi and Matteo are in a race for survival. While they work to track down who’s after them, attraction burns hot and bright. Gabbi knows a man like Matteo won’t be interested in her for long, and she asks him to show her all the things she’s been missing in the bedroom. But the possessive need to keep her safe is growing in Matteo, and soon he has two mission objectives: take down the bad guys, and convince Gabbi Hansley that she’s his.

An action-packed standalone romantic suspense.

I Love this Series!

This is the second book in the Sentinel Security Series, a Romantic Suspense. This series is interconnected with other Anna Hackett's security series (Norcross Security Series and Team 52 Series). Gabbi and Hades/Matteo's story is entertaining, suspenseful, action packed, and passionate. Hades, a former Anti-Mafia officer and Interpol agent, is sexy, handsome, and very protective. Gabbi, a CIA analyst, is beautiful, smart, and determined. The world building is intricate, and captivating. The supporting characters are great. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton did an excellent job with the narration. I enjoyed it. I need more! Looking forward to listening to Striker, the next book in the series.

Well Done Narration

The narration on this book was well done. It started out with Gabbi, who seemed to be easily taken advantage of by family and co-workers. She came across as being extremely insecure. Based on Gabbi's relationship with her relatives, it was completely understandable.

I did not expect Gabbi to show any level of strength or confidence as quickly as she did. It was like meeting Matteo flipped a switch for Gabbi. She always came across as intelligent. The subsequent elevator scene request was totally unexpected based on Gabbi's previous behavior.

Admittedly, I had to suspend my beliefs for some aspects of this story, but that did not make it a less enjoyable read. The action in this book started early and was rather intense. I enjoyed the action, danger, and suspense. I liked the way Matteo treated Gabbi. He worked to put her insecurities at rest. He recognized her intelligence, and inner strength. He helped to boost her confidence. In return, Gabbi accepted him and his past. She also love and supported him at every turn.

I thought the other members of Sentinel had interesting character traits. I am hoping they will be getting their own books. I know Wolf has an audiobook. That is next on my list. I want Hadley, Killian, Hex, Devyn, and Bram's stories as well.

All in all an enjoyable romantic suspense that I listened to in one sitting. I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this audiobook.

Anna Hackett does not disappoint!

Loved this journey of Gabriella’s, and Mateo’s! From DC to Italy, to New York sentinel security, has you on the edge of your seat! And great romance, too. Couldn’t put it down and love this book!

You’re going to enjoy this one!

4.5 stars

Hades Mancini works for Sentinel Security. He is given a simple assignment to meet a CIA employee to receive a hard drive and a file. (It is never revealed what happens to the hard drive or file!) So he plans to have a quiet dinner at a nice restaurant in Washington, DC and retrieve the items. Unfortunately, someone from his past wants to get even with him. And Gabbi Hansley, a CIA analyst from an extremely dysfunctional family, gets caught in the cross-fire. She just wants a normal life, and to find someone who appreciates her and doesn’t take her for granted. Sadly, this simple goal has proven elusive.

Gabbi ends up helping Hades and the Sentinel Security team with analyzing some of the input they get. She’s very good at her job, and Hades really appreciates the skill set that she brings to the group.

This is a fast-paced story with a lot of action mixed in with some fun dialogue, and some interesting ‘lessons.’ There are at least two and possibly three other potential stories that are set up in this book, so get ready for these! The tension is high at times, and the women of Sentinel Security are pretty bada$$, too! This is another wonderful story by a fantastic author!

The quality of the audio recording is excellent. Teddy Hamilton and Stella Bloom do a fantastic job of voicing the characters in this story. Their narration brings the story to life and provides the energy to make it an exciting experience. There aren’t any extraneous noises on the recording, and it is a fun listen.

Good Book, but One Thing Makes Me Sad

So, I'm a big fan of Anna Hackett. Hades is a good book. I really like the story. The one thing that bothered me was the narration in this one. Normally, I love Teddy and Stella. They do a great job together. But neither one of them is great with accents and Mateo's Italian accent was terrible. I'm really sad they didn't choose somebody else to do Mateo's voice. I'm also really sad that Stella and Teddy are narrating Hadley's story too. Nothing against either one of them, I think they're fantastic narrators. They just don't maintain accents well, and this series is full of fantastic accents.
