Publisher's summary

The New York Times bestselling author of Unfu*k Yourself helps cut through our anxieties about being a “good parent” so we can take charge of our lives and show our kids how to take charge of their own.

Gary John Bishop has helped millions of people break free of self-sabotaging behaviors. Yet we all seem to feel like we’re failing at this thing called parenting. Common wisdom isn’t working—our kids are struggling. Gary argues we don’t need more tips, tricks, and techniques, we need an overhaul of who we are. We’re never going to measure up to the “perfect parent” model we’ve built up in our heads—a Frankenstein version of mom and dad cobbled together from our childhoods, our parents, cultural ideals, social media, and everything in between.

We want to be good parents, but our pasts hold us back. If you’re thinking: “I can’t be a good parent because I had a sh---y childhood, bad parents, or a traumatic experience”—stop! Let go of what came before and start taking action in the present to be the person that nurtures their child from a place of love, forgiveness, and integrity. By doing so, you are modeling and equipping your kids to confidently face the world and thrive.

Whether you are a parent, want to be a parent, or simply have parents, this book will cut to the heart of who you are and how you show up in the world—to fully take charge of the direction of your life and show your kids how to follow theirs.

A Must Read

I discovered Gary John Bishop in 2020. He tells it like it is and this book Grow Up is for anyone whether you are a parent or not. I love hearing Gary's voice and his message is always spot on. I am a parent of a 27 year old and thought I had blown it as a parent. Gary's message is reassuring and gives you something to think about. I will listen to this book again and green something different each time I listen.Thank you Gary for giving me the tools to to support my daughters move to her own apartment within the next year. I am more ready having listened to your book.

Must Read!

"Grow Up" by Gary John Bishop is an absolute game-changer for anyone seeking to break free from the pressures of being a "good parent" and embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

In this book, Bishop challenges the notion that we need more parenting tips, tricks, and techniques, and instead urges us to undergo a profound transformation from within. He guides us through the process of letting go of our pasts and embracing a new way of being as parents.

One of the most compelling aspects of "Grow Up" is Bishop's ability to address the impact of our own childhoods, upbringing, and societal influences on our parenting styles. He encourages us to break free from the mold of the "perfect parent" we have constructed in our minds, which often holds us back from truly connecting with and nurturing our children.

This book is not just for parents; it is for anyone who has ever had parents or aspires to be a parent. Bishop's profound insights compel us to reflect deeply on who we are and how we show up in the world. He empowers us to take charge of our lives, guiding us to become the best versions of ourselves and inspiring our children to follow suit.

If you are wise enough to purchase this…….

This is my first time leaving a review on audible. If you are scrolling through 5 star rated books or nearly 5…I MUST encourage and HIGHLY recommend you bless yourself…your true, AUTHENTIC SELF 😉, and learn some tools that just genuinely kick ass!!
Gary’s “no bullshit, I’m in your face because I love you” approach, suggests, present moment thinking, on how you become your own definition of self… because YOU decided who that is!!
If you are a parent… this is a book about you.. the parent, not your kids, because if YOU can get YOU right, then everyone around you, undoubtedly can be…whomever they want to be, and witness firsthand that “YOUR TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!!” 🤞😁❤️🙏

Excellent

His work is life-changing. I found his other books in March; this one may be the best. I’ll probably listen again at least 2 more times. Humbling and thought-provoking. Thank you
