Love getting listen to more of the series with Grim and Paige. It is a hard road that Grim is going down and he thinks he is doing the right thing by leaving Paige yo find a cure. Grim lands a cursed man and takes Matt with him. Now things don’t seem right when he goes to an old friend looking for help. Grim he as to do a favor to get a chance of getting a cure. Now to the next book.

the dialogue is stilted. there is very little character development for any of the characters. there setting doesn't give much besides "haunted castle".

I read this because someone recommended the second book, and this book appears before it in the series. I am not sure I'm going to buy that book because this one doesn't do much to stand out and make me want more of the world.

main character cited history between himself and owner of house, but gives almost none of that history. Aaron is unlikeable, appears to be an idiot, and we learn barely anything about him, his motivation, his special software, etc. He's a one dimensional "I'm a rich asshole" and not much else.

the main character seems to have lots of love for Paige, his ex girlfriend who he left because he's too dangerous (cliche edge lord behavior but ok), but also gives no reasons to why he loves her or why she loves him.

matt's character is just jar jar binks but a goat.

I really hope the author got some chops between this and the second book if I'm going to have any chance of getting through it, but I might just try and find it free somewhere because no way am I paying an audible credit for this again.

without spoiling the ending, it's absolutely insane how much grim and the other characters let Aaron get away with. there's no explanation to this, just nobody cares about what he did. makes me dislike the main character even more.

overall this reads like a decent draft that skipped the editor and went straight to print. silver lining: anyone who has ambitions to write a book, go for it! this got published, after all.

Injustice

The reveal of the monster and how it was dealt with really made me mad and it ruined the story for me. The voice actor is great, though. I will not continue with the series.
