Publisher's Summary

Mignon Fogarty, aka Grammar Girl, is determined to wipe out bad grammar - but she's also determined to make the process as painless as possible. One year ago, she created a weekly podcast to tackle some of the most common mistakes people make while communicating. More than seven million episodes have now been downloaded, and Mignon has dispensed grammar tips on Oprah and appeared on the pages of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today

With the trademark wit, warmth, and approachability that the podcasts are known for, Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing covers the grammar rules and word choice guidelines that can confound even the best writers. From "between vs. among" and "although vs. while" to comma splices and misplaced modifiers, Mignon offers memory tricks and clear explanations that will help listeners recall and apply those troublesome grammar rules. Chock full of tips on style, business writing, and effective e-mailing, Grammar Girl's latest audiobook should be heard by every communicator.

Highly recommended

As a non native English speaker I really enjoyed listening to the book. There were a lot of rules that I already knew but it is always good to refresh. Many things were new and interesting. After reading this book I think twice before I write something. Especially in this review😂

Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips

Excellent for those grammar challenged. She makes grammar fun and easy to learn. I need to hear this book about every 3 months to get all the info she gives. If you got A's in English this is not the book for you.

Worthwhile But Not in Audio Form

The author does an excellent job of clarifying grammar errors in an entertaining way and with excellent tips to remember them by. However, this is something better done on paper that you can refer back to specific needs easily. The thought of listening to this every three months or so as some reviewers have suggested is not pleasurable to me.

Grammar Rocks

I love her playful style and common sense approach. For me, grammar isn’t about perfection. It’s about communication, desired impact, and being taken seriously.
This book will help every day writers do just that.

Yes this is an introductory book. If you already write for a living or writing is major role in your life, don’t waste your time.

Good, Not Great

I think this one of the better grammar audiobooks. Too much antidotal information is the problem that I have with this book. I am in need of an audio grammar book that is simple and straightforward. I need a book without the fluff.

For instance, can a comma be used to join simple sentences: I came, I saw, I conquered. The answer is yes. She does the topical little girl thing: wax and wane. She does not directly attack the issue on point, wasting time and energy.

interesting story

If you could sum up Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing in three words, what would they be?

educational, fun, useful.

What about Mignon Fogarty’s performance did you like?

Her sense of humour seeping through her performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This is a grammar book, it is not aimed at 'moving' the reader, but to educate; which it does.

Any additional comments?

This is a worthwhile book to get to know. It certainly will improve your language skills.

Useful, but...

It is very useful, especially the chapter about the writing style. However, one chapter is too long. I wish that chapter was divided so easy to control (go back or skip) the chapter.

Extremely helpful.

This is certainly a book I will be reading/listening to many more times. Extremely helpful and easy to understand.
With roof on writing almost anything from a simple text message to article and novel writing.
A must read for everyone who reads or writes the English language.
