Publisher's Summary

Is it harder for you to change and grow as a Christian than it should be? Do you wonder what is holding you back? Have you ever considered that it might be idolatry?

Using real-life stories and examples, Brad Bigney shows us how the idols we might not even recognize can still have devastating effects in our lives. In this transparent, honest book, he helps us to identify our idols, understand how they lead us to commit treason against the gospel - and finally repent of them and root them out forever by turning to the only One who can fill our every need.

A powerful understanding of heart motives played out in life.

A foundational book to better understand ourselves and our authentic walk with Christ as both Savior and Lord of all. We are encouraged to get to the root of our heart issues and identify the sinful idolatry that is the real cause of most painful surface issues.

This Book Will Change Your Life

Brad Bigney has written a gem that will set you free from the Idols in your life. Many Christian believe Idols are a thing of the Old Testament. You will quickly learn that the “Golden Calfs” of the past are alive and well in very deceptive forms within our own lives today. Bob Souer’s voice beautifully reads this very difficult yet freeing book.

Getting to the root of relational problems

This book is very helpful in getting to the root causes of relational problems. While many other books offer bandaids for malignant relational tumors, this book helps real soul surgery to be done to remove what’s causing the problem.

Felt more like marriage counseling

While I'd say this book is still spot on at helping to identify idols and combat them, the majority of examples and often the way in which whole chapters were structured made it seem like this is a book to help improve your marriage. Though I'm married, I couldn't identify with many of the examples and this focus often made the threat of idolatry seem lower stakes than what it really is as I was reading this book.

Excellent book

Gospel treason is an excellent book. It does an incredible job of explaining idolatry and idolatry of the heart and Howell as a Christian many of our conflicts and challenges that we face are due to the idols of our heart. I highly recommend this book. It is one of the best ones I’ve read.

life changing perspective

This book really helps to see the core Idols in our lives. Focused on those instead of the noise of our actions gives much better confidence in our removing them.

Excellent and practical

I was expecting this to say “just stop moaning and get on with whatever is bothering you” but it was far more useful than that. As Bigney points out, idolatry does change you, it skews your perceptions and conduct.
Only criticism is the occasional & unnecessary quotation from The Message.
