Critic Reviews

"Quite simply the funniest book you'll read all year...easily as funny, as self-deprecating and as wordly-wise as The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven...it's like Tom and Jerry written by a Cockney Roddy Doyle on Prozac. But funnier." ( GQ Online on Going Off Alarming)
"Rattles along at the same delightful and dizzying pace as its predecessor.... Baker loves a tale told at his own expense and they come thick and fast. He writes like he speaks, with hyperactive garrulity and a rhetorical flourish...there is something about Baker in full flow that is affirming." ( Daily Telegraph on Going Off Alarming)

Glorious glorious Candyman

Oh I have just had the loveliest few weeks listening to all three books. It’s been like having Danny back on the radio in my drive home. Have never read or listened to a better written or performed biog. Stands up and applauds. Thank you Candyman.

Great book, poor audio editing

Like all of Danny Baker’s books this is fantastic - he is a great story teller.

However, there are dozens of occasions within the audio recording where Danny restarts sentences and these have not been edited out.

Love it

There is a very different feel to this third book as it covers the death of the author's much loved dad and his own battle with cancer. There are still lots of hilarious anecdotes but the passing of Spud is dealt with with great tenderness while his description of his cancer treatment pulls no punches. I have enjoyed all three books in this series, perhaps because he describes so well a world I also grew up in. As he says he remembers everything but I seem to have forgotten so much so it is great to be reminded of a different time.

Get it NOW - absolutely amazing

I have listened to well over 100 audiobooks and this is by far one of the best I’ve listened to.

Danny Baker is one of my favourite presenters / writers so I am biased but trust me, the way Danny describes his stories is like nectar to the ears.

A wonderful range of emotions are felt through this book, mostly laughing.

If you’ve read this far it means you’ve not bought it yet, procrastinate no more, you’ll be glad you did.

Perfect

Ah Danny, I love you mate. Of the 3 volumes this is perhaps the saddest but Danny comes through it in such a down to earth way that you feel churlish for breaking down in tears. I love you Danny.

loved this book.

Danny is as consistent as ever. Read the book before this but hearing it in his own voice is so much better

Fantastic end to the trilogy

Honestly love Danny Baker even more after reading this 3rd memoir. His chapters dealing with his illness was moving as was his recollection of loosing his dad. This was a fantastic listen. Loved every second

Brave Man

In his own words Danny Baker talks about the most harrowing experiences which any of us could face. Straight talking and the usual honesty, all through the lens of a man who remains true to his roots. I'd love meet him in person and share a few pints of milk in his company.

A must read

This is definitely the funniest book I have ever read, you can tell Danny is a professional comedy writer and his delivery as a narrator is brilliant. Even though the book covers some difficult times for the writer it is captivating, emotional and incredibly funny. I bought the next one with my next credit and they are multi read material.

looking to part 4 of the Baker triolgy

All 3 books of Danny's autobiography are brilliant. Totally entertaining had me laughing like a drain on the train into work. Can't recommend them enough guaranteed to brighten your mood and put a spring in your step.

Triple score

This is the third autobiography from Danny and doesn't fail to draw you into his world of madcap adventures and great love for his family and friends. As expected its peppered with the up's and down's of his career, his diagnosis and recovery from cancer and charming hilarious anecdotes from his beloved father Spud.
As an audio book you feel especially like Danny is in the room regaling you with his tales. A brilliant joy of a book.
More please Danny :-)
