Publisher's summary

The apocalypse is never easy.

After narrowly escaping certain death, James, Claire, and Beth have taken refuge in his luxurious mansion.

Their goals are simple: fortify his mountainside home into a base of operations and, with some luck, survive. Fortunately for him, he has two beautiful women to help.

As the the days pass, James quickly learns of Claire's hidden feelings and Beth's intentions. Just when he thought things couldn't get more complicated, a new threat emerges: raiders. They're relentless, brutal, and possibly more dangerous than the destruction itself.

Now, faced with an onslaught of toxic chemicals, insane survivors, and a distant radio transmission from a lab, it's up to James, Beth, and Claire to uncover the secrets of the apocalypse...and their true feelings between each other.

Good story continuation

Im gonna say this was a good story continuation book because I honestly felt like nothing new happened. This book was more about the after math of the world ending/changing event that has occurred and the characters trying to gather supplies. This was not a bad book by any means. the writing and story are great. There was one minor confrontation and there seems to be something big coming in the next book. All in all it was a good book, even if I think it could have been part of the first book.

Christopher Harbour and Mandy McCullough gave a great performance throughout this book.

Good Sequel

When it comes to a sequel, I am personally looking for everything that made the last book worth it and then some. In my opinion that is this book. I've been thoroughly entertained by the story, and I am looking forward to more. In my opinion this book ended on something of a soft cliffhanger. As a rule, I’m not a fan of cliffhangers but this one wasn't too bad. The narration team is still relatively new to me, but I think they did a fantastic job with their performance. The writing was solid all around and I would recommend it to anybody reading this review. If you get to the ending of this book and you're looking for more from the author, then I recommend “Desperate Times.” Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

I've been waiting for this one.

It's been a while since book 1 and I've been waiting impatiently this whole time. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed at all. A very enjoyable listen in well thought out crazy type of world. Now the wait begins for book 3.

Fantastic story

This is a great story about survival in an end of the world type setting and the challenges the characters face make them seem real and it’s just a great listen

A Self-confessed Not Very Good Prepper!

As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

Book One of the Aftermath Falls Series (Lights Out), introduced us to MC James, the world’s luckiest investor, the world’s shyest flirt, the world’s biggest braggart, and the world’s worst prepper! Somehow, he still came across as likable. Also likable were the two female MCs: Beth and Claire, two girls struggling to make ends meet as waitresses. What was excellent was the narration! Christopher Harbour did a fine job with male voices, and Mandy McCullough was fantastic with the female voices. She also threw in the occasional soft sound effects, like knocking on a door. The effects were subtle and enjoyable, not at all distracting like some of the Graphic Audio effects can be.

So, long story short: I decided to give Book Two (Going Dark) a chance, and requested a review copy. I’m glad I did. The narrators continue doing excellent jobs, and in Book Two the “flaws” of James as a prepper, and the girls’ thought processes of “gee, do I want to stay in a mansion with James and my BFF, or take a chance out in the world and get eaten by neurotoxin, bio-weapon affected cannibal crazies?” struck me as more of a parody of a post-apocalyptic story than actual flaws.

For his part, James is still the world’s worst prepper: he built a two-basement mansion high up on a mountain, but forgot to stock things like a first aid kit, antibiotics, batteries, radios, much food, much fuel, spare car parts, weapons and ammo etc. At one point though, James admits to himself that he wasn’t very good at prepping! I nearly spit up my beverage laughing at that unexpected bit of self-honesty!

The romance and sex varies throughout the book. Sometimes it’s like Middle School (do you like me?), sometimes it’s very flirtatious (Claire feels safest sleeping naked in bed with James and Beth, but it takes several nights before anyone considers even cuddling), and sometimes it’s enjoyably explicit. All-in-all, I liked the relationship dynamics and growth.

There are no mutated monster creatures in this series, but there are humans badly affected by the neurotoxins, bio-weapons, and James, Beth and Claire manage to fight off several during various trips to town for supplies. “Going Dark” ends with plans to rescue scientist Myra, who is injured, out of food, and surrounded by cannibal crazies with guns. They also plan to fortify the mansion against eventual raiders.

So, if you’re looking for a more lighthearted survivalist story with likable characters and really terrific narration, I think you’ll enjoy “Going Dark”. I hope the author continues the series!

Lights out 2 no more lights

I great continuation of the story always love post apocalyptic stories that has to deal with survival and this is a great story for that there is some slow moments but it keeps the story going and makes sure that survival items they would need and how and where to get them my only complaint is I wish the books were a bit longer by 2-3 hours as I feel like things are just about to start by the end and I’m wanting just a bit more of a fix

Fantastic Sexy Romp

Lara X. Lust has done it again. From the first page to the last this book drew me in and sent me on a wild ride.

We are now further into the end of the world, and having saved her friend, the MC settles in to defend his home against what is coming. Part of that being having to venture back into town (where he nearly died) to get more supplies while there are still some. Sexy times, near death encounters, and the perfect setup for the next book ensue, and leave me in a place where I just cant wait for the next book to come out.

As always the voice acting was on point and top notch, and they interplay between them just felt and sounded so real.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review, and the above thoughts are fully my own.
