Publisher's Summary

If you mix Sword Art Online and The Land, and make them both darker - Project Chrysalis is what you get in this new Gamelit series.

Chrysalis is the project of the century. It’s a hyper-realistic fantasy RPG set in the Middle Ages. Chrysalis is a perfect virtual reality game where every orphan under governmental care is placed in an in-game family to finally obtain all the love and care from the parents which kids need so desperately. But for one orphan who took part in this program something went horribly wrong.

Instead of a happy childhood Anji suffers from demonification. Being betrayed for the sake of someone else's master plan he finds himself in the most hopeless place of Chrysalis: Hell which is full of bloodthirsty demons, agony, and despair.

Sagie (Anji’s in-game username), empowered by homesickness and revenge, will go through Hell to face those who’ve taken everything from him. Cruel gods, bloody demons and game officers whose purpose is to keep order and safe balance, who will do their best to stop him on his crusade. The road will be long and gruesome. Blessed are those who struggle.

absolutely awful

forced myself to listen to the first half. this book makes almost every mistake you can make when writing a lit rpg. the mc is an outright mary-sue, the game mechanics are easily and constantly broken, nothing is ever challenging for the mc, and constant child abuse is considered normal.

Just a Marty Sue

the main character is a Marty Sue, and as such is never truly challenged. I can say that the main character has slightly more personality than most Mary and Marty Sues. but that still leaves him at the level of a mostly adequate support character and not where a main character should be.

Minor spoilers ahead.

the main character is, at start of the book, a preteen and as a non-adult in this game, the main character is locked at level 0 but may raise stats to a certain extent by training.
including gaining resistances to damage, such resistance is coming to form of X percentage reduction up to Y damage. this may be a translation error, but this damage reduction why I'll never breaching even 50%, allows the main character to outright ignore comical amounts of damage, to the point of ignoring damage that other players would immediately die from. and while the main character is effectively a beta tester allowing said main character to get a head start on it when else, not only is this main character ahead of the new arrivals this main characters also head of players that have been playing longer than the main character. which is very easy to do considering that the main character Mangia is too, repetitively, get himself locked out of the game for his own stupidity. so a highly disadvantaged character, is able to waltz around and Bully characters in their hundreds, our main character, who is locked at level 0, goes around butchering mobs in the high hundreds with contemptuous ease. one of the excuses used to make this is oh he's trained his tats up so that he's acting like a really high level character. Because none of the characters slashed players who are able to gain levels and are not stat capped have thought to do this in a similar manner.
this series is dumb do not buy.

I just feel bad for the voice actor.

Waste of time

Definitely love to read pretty much anything, but this book was just not good. I had a hard time finishing it. Had had to keep reminding myself I already spent the credit and it’s only 5 hours long. The story was no good and I didn’t think it was consistent.
***SPOILER***

The main character did so much grinding in hell just to start back over as he got out. I wish the did something with is demon self. I was over all extremely disappointed.

can't wait for to second to come to audible.

a unique way to have an overpowered character be challenged while also having a promising story.

This was a nice and unique book

The character was over powered but the bad situation he kept getting him self in was not his fault and they are what got him to be overpowered

good narrator, but the story is to simple

the narrator does a good job but the story is to simple lacking any reason for what is going on in the story. it feels incredibly rushed.

good story, good narration,

the story was good but there were some difficulties in understanding the numbers that were being put out for resistances. the narration was done well, and easy to understand. I saw there are four books currently out and I fear it will take audible five years to finish those four.

great book

I hope you are going to put the rest of this series on audible. I listened to this to many times, but I still love it. I do a lot of driving and don't get time to read.
