Tobias

My name is Tobias Spencer, and as a small-town boy from Maine, it was always my dream to live in Boston. I finally made it; I just wasn’t expecting for my bad luck to follow me from Millinocket and leave me homeless at the mercy of kind people...person, at the mercy of a kind person who I now call my boss. My hot, perfect, broody, kind, and very straight, boss.

Working with Harvey Breevort is the best thing that happened to me in this city. Working with Harvey might be the worst thing that happened to me in this city. I want him; I crave him. Maybe...maybe I even need him.

Harvey

Setting up Tobias on a date surely backfired; I wasn’t expecting him to like this guy at all. They don’t even look good together. I mean, he is attracted to me. He does his best to hide it, and even though it’s not reciprocated, I don’t mind that his cheeks get all red and flushed when I swim in my pool, which is why it pisses me off that he likes this guy that looks so much different to me.

Tobias should be consistent, right? If he likes muscles, then he should go looking for someone that looks like me. Not me, definitely not me! But he should at least...look like me. Shouldn’t he.

A sweet opposites attract!

This was a sweet, light hearted, refreshing romance.

The characters were likeable, engaging and I liked the dynamics between them.

The storyline was interesting and I liked how the characters got together.

Overall a sweet contemporary feel good listen.

The narrator did a great job on the audio delivery as well.

Amazing Story

I really enjoyed this story about Tobias and Harvey. Tobias and Harvey meet after Tobias is robbed and goes to a restaurant begging for scraps. The host is quite rude and makes a comment about the owner who happens to be standing behind Tobias who is Harvey. Harvey decides to help him out by letting him stay at his place and to work as his pool boy. JR does a great job narrating the story. I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review.

The story didn’t really draw me in.

Gay Indeed sounded like a story I might have enjoyed but it was too noisy, as in there was a lot going on and I feel like it might have ruined the plot of the story. It’s a GFY kind and as much as I love those kinds of MM romance stories, Gay Indeed did not make my list. The narrator was okay, didn’t really different between the main characters as much as I would like and also, they slept with other people which is a big turn off for me. Also I was confused as to who was exactly Gay when the author made both characters seem bisexual? So yeah, that one threw me off a bit. Nothing to really write home about this one, just that is was okay.

I received an audio arc, in exchanged for my honest review, of this title for Gay Romance Reviews.

Not the best

There is a lot that happens in this story even though it's not terribly long. The plot moves quickly and it does not get boring. Though there are several plot holes and things that don't really make sense, but it's best to just go with it. I did have an issue with the fact that this is a story about two bi men, but the author repeatedly refers to them as gay (including in the title), which is not the same. Most people in our community are specific about their orientation and this story does not seem to respect that. Like the plot issues, if you can ignore it, you will probably enjoy this story. I found it to be a struggle.

Great narration that really adds to the story

The narration on this is definitely 5 stars! Even though it was a single narrator, he did an outstanding job of getting the character voices differentiated so the listener could keep everyone in line during the story. Another helpful thing was the fact that a significant enough pause was given between chapters and the changing POVs that sometimes happened within the chapter. I had no problem understanding who was talking, or thinking, throughout the story making it a joy to listen to.

That said, I’m not sure if I would have liked it as much had I read it in print. I did enjoy the fact that things moved along in the timeline fairly quickly. It was just difficult to feel a positive connection with Harvey. I will say that he was probably portrayed realistically in his complete denial of "being gay". I feel this author did write a story different than others that I have read that were GFY, and for that I have appreciation. So add to that the perfect job done in the narration, giving me many moments of laughing out loud, as well as gasping a bit in surprise. So for that, I would call it pretty much a win. (3.5-4 stars)

Tobias and Harvey's GFY Romance

This book was offered to me as an audiobook ARC that I requested. My opinions on it are voluntary. While the story did improve toward the end, at the start I had some problems with it.

I couldn’t get a handle on how the author wanted the reader to perceive these characters. Both Tobias and Harvey, especially Harvey, come off as immature jerks through much of the book. That makes it difficult to connect with them emotionally.

Most of the dialogue is either porn-movie cliche or romance-novel cheesy.

On the positive side, and despite a rushed ending, if readers stay with the story, they'll find it does have a sweet happily-ever-after.

I liked the narration by JR Pyfferoen. He delivers a well-voiced performance.

Enjoyable characters!

Harvey and Tobias are real enough to be believable, complicated enough to be engaging, and funny enough to make this book awesome. Harvey's struggles with his sexuality were frustrating at times, but I enjoyed his process towards self realisation. I'll be looking for more by Lara Hale!

Very good

I think this was my first novel from Laura Hale but it certainly won't be my last! It was a fun, gay for you story that felt real and believable as so many GFY stories are not. Really liked the main characters and was happy when they finally got their HEA. Loved the narrator and though he did an excellent job! Definitely a narrator with a bright future in audiobooks!

Meh

The story itself was kind of corny. A lot of unnecessary drama and unbelievable characters. It was enough to finish but not enough to truly enjoy. The narrator was amazing however and will go on my list of go-tos.
